Gov Oborevwori ,Gov Abiodun Win ‘Last Lap’ Of ‘Judicial Battle’ As Supreme Court Upholds Their Victories

Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta state and Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state  had their victories in the gubernatorial election held in their respective states on March 18, 2023, upheld by the Supreme Court on Friday.

Being the nation’s apex court, it was the last lap of the ‘judicial battle’ that began about ten months ago, and they have ultimately won.

It had been victory for the two governors all the way having earlier had their victories upheld by the respective tribunals and the Court of Appeal.

Governor Dapo Abiodun

PDP candidate in the gubernatorial election held in Ogun state on March 18, 2023, Hon Ladi Adebutu and his party had  asked the apex court to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC  to conduct fresh elections in the 99 polling stations where elections were allegedly cancelled.

The Appeal Court, Lagos Division, had however in a split decision on November 24, 2023, affirmed Abiodun’s re-election.

The majority judgment delivered by Justice Joseph Ikyegh dismissed the appeal filed by the PDP and its governorship candidate.

In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Tijani Abubakar on Friday, the Supreme Court has also dismissed the appeal filed by Adebutu and his party, the PDP.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori

The  apex court dismissed the  separate appeals  filed by the All Progressives Congress and its candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege, and the Labour Party and its candidate, Ken Pella,  challenging  the governor’s victory.

A five-member panel headed  by Justice John Okoro said the appeal  by Omo -Agege lacked merit adding that the appellant was unable to discharge the burden of proof placed on him while Pella’s appeal was also dismissed citing lack of merit-Team@orientactualmags.com
