National Anthem: I’ve Said ‘No’ To ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’ And I Will Not Reconsider My Decision –Ezekwesili
Former Minister for Education, Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has submitted that she would not rethink her decision to continue to sing ‘Arise, O Compatriots’ and say ‘no’ to ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’.
‘Arise, O Compatriots’ is the national anthem that had been in use since 1978, while ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’ was the old national anthem, that was composed when Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Ezekwesili disclosed this in a social media post that came from her in reaction to the viral video of Aisha Yesufu wherein she publicly rejected ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had on May 29 assented to the National Anthem Bill 2024 reverting to the old national anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’ .
Recall also that Mrs. Obiageli had asserted that she will never join other Nigerians to sing ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’.
.
‘#AishaYesufu , Definitely #NotMyNationalAnthem as I already publicly conveyed.
In my case, whenever and wherever the National Anthem is called for, I shall continue to sing #AriseOCompatriots as #MyNationalAnthem.
The Lawmakers #nassnigeria and the #NGRPresident grievously breached the Constitutional provisions and process for amendment of legislation and therefore cannot foist another National Anthem on us. I refuse to join them in the Kangaroo Act of violating the Constitution.
Nigeria is a Constitutional Democracy and must be so governed’ she submitted on X on Saturday-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
