Climate Change Impacts : NASS Promises Support For Kebbi Govt

The National Assembly will do everything humanly possible to support Kebbi state government in its efforts to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change in the state , the Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Ecological Funds, Hon .Shina Oyedeji, has submitted

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the Kebbi state governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yahaya Sarki  noted that Hon. Oyedeji said this  in Birnin Kebbi  on Monday when he led the other members of the committee on a courtesy visit to Governor Nasir Idris, the Kauran Gwandu, on behalf of the committee’s  Chairman.

He lamented that negative impacts of climate change are now more prevalent in Nigeria, just like other parts of the world.

While explaining that climate change is more evident in global warming, food and other natural disasters, Oyedeji said that Nigeria is doing a lot to stem the tide of the ecological scourge.

According to him, ecology is very crucial to human sustenance especially in guaranteeing food security.

He added that the essence of the nationwide tour by the committee is to assess the deployment, management and impact of the ecological funds.

Oyedeji said, ‘We are here to see the progress made, see the challenges and chart the way forward.

We want to come up with a workable database in this direction and do the needful to improve the functions of the funds..

We will partner with the states to support them especially the most active states like Kebbi’.

The federal  lawmaker also noted that the committee attaches greater importance to Kebbi state which was why it was the first to be visited by the committee, saying, ‘that is why it is the first state we are visiting since our inauguration in November’.

Oyedeji urged the state government to share with the committee the challenges being faced by Kebbi in respect of ecology and utilization of the ecological funds.

He also expressed satisfaction with the utilization of the funds for recommended projects by the Kebbi state Government.

The SSG, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, who represented the governor, said Kebbi state Government has been up and doing in respect of using the funds for the implementation of projects  but would however require additional intervention to expand the horizon of the programme.

He said ; ‘In Kebbi state, we have serious negative impacts of this ecological problem, by the time we go round you will see some of the areas negatively impacted by the problem  and what we have done to a significant extent .

We will certainly require more funding to deal with the problem, we have a lot of problems particularly  in Zuru,Yauri,Jega,Argungu and even Birnin Kebbi’-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
