Allegations Against Me ‘Baseless’, Abacha Detained Me But I Was ‘Unruffled’ -NLC President

The National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) , Mr  Joe Ajaero , who was  accused  of terrorism financing, cybercrime, and other related offences. and got quizzed by the police on Thursday, has submitted that the union will not allow itself to get intimidated by external pressures,

Noting that he was at the Force Headquarters  to promote  transparency and set the record straight in respect of the allegations leveled against him and the union, Ajaero told  journalists at the Labour House after leaving the Force headquarters, that the NLC will remain committed to defending the rights of Nigerian workers and will not be cowed by any form of intimidation.

‘We can’t be intimidated. The allegations against us are baseless, and we have nothing to hide’ he said.

Ajaero also noted that such an experience is not strange and should ordinarily be expected by any union leader while disclosing that he was detained under the military administration headed by late General Sani Abacha..

‘You can’t do this job we’re doing without this type of hazard. Even at the unit level, some of us experienced it, as far back as 1997/1998 with Femi Falana, we were equally together in the cell during the time of Abacha… but whatever the case is, we’re out to continue the struggle, we’ve gotten minimum wage but we can’t be intimidated, we have to press for its implementation as soon as possible.

Every other thing that will make the welfare of the Nigerian workers worthwhile, we will be involved in it’ he added.

Mr. Joe Ajaero, who  had arrived at the Intelligence Response Team , Force Headquarters , Abuja, at exactly 10:17am, on Thursday,  left at 11.15 am.
