Strike: Protesting Students Block Lagos Airport Road…Reps To  Hold Talks With ASUU,  Stakeholders Tomorrow

Strike: Protesting Students Block Lagos Airport Road…Reps To  Hold Talks With ASUU,  Stakeholders Tomorrow

Protesting students on Monday morning blocked a section of the access road to the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos and this led to a traffic jam that made vehicular movement impossible.

It also affected the entire network of intersecting streets bringing traffic to a halt.

The students were protesting against the unresolved ASUU strike.

The House of Representatives has announced plans to hold talks with ASUU  and other stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the issue.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned Mr. Yahaya Danzaria,  who  is the Clerk of the House of Representatives , announced this in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

He said the meeting would take place tomorrow   at the National Assembly, the House of Representatives wing.

Danzaria said the meeting with ASUU and other critical stakeholders was geared towards finding a lasting solution to the lingering strike.

The House of Representatives, he noted, was deeply concerned about the unresolved strike which seems to have defied all efforts to find a solution. He added that the House was worried   that there had been no agreement reached between the Federal Government and the striking University lecturers.

The clerk noted that the House was more worried about the negative consequences of the strike on the future and quality of education of the teeming Nigerian youths.

He lamented that the young people had been kept at home for the past six months despite the intervention of the House and several well-meaning Nigerians over time to see that the matter was resolved.

‘In the light of the foregoing, the House hereby requests another opportunity to come together with stakeholders and leadership of ASUU to seek an amicable resolution’ he said.

The statement also noted that this was without prejudice to the fact that the matter was already before the Industrial Court.

University lecturers in the country had stayed away from class since February 14, after accusing the federal government of failing to meet some of their demands including, the release of revitalization funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, release of earned allowances and the adoption of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution- Team@orientactualmags.com
