Kebbi LGs Enjoying ‘Financial’, ‘Administrative’ Autonomy Under Gov Idris-ALGON Chairman

Local governments in Kebbi State are fully enjoying financial and administrative autonomy under Governor Nasir Idris, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kebbi State Chapter, Hon. Muhammad Dahiru Nayaya Ambursa, has submitted.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that Hon. Nayaya, who is also the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government, said this while talking to journalists in Birni Kebbi on Monday .

He noted that Kebbi State has no issues or problem with local government autonomy because Governor Idris is committed to protecting the rights and privileges of the chainmen and their respective local governments.

Hon. Muhammad Dahiru Nayaya Ambursa

‘We are fully prepared to enjoy local government autonomy, but in Kebbi, it makes no significant difference.

Our leader, Comrade Nasir Idris, has ensured that local government councils operate independently, with full access to finances and other essential resources’ he said.

Welcoming the  anticipated nationwide implementation of local government autonomy, Nayaya highlighted potential challenges, especially for councils with limited financial capacity.

‘The concern is that six local government councils in Kebbi will struggle to pay salary without assistance from the state government.

Autonomy must be implemented with sensitivity to these realities. During a recent meeting of local government chairmen in Katsina, it was revealed that several councils in Katsina and Kebbi states face similar issues with salary payments under autonomy’ he said

Also commenting on Birnin Kebbi Cemetery ,Hon. Nayaya  disclosed that Governor Idris has approved the acquisition of a 100-hectare site near Unguwar Dembo, Birnin Kebbi, for the construction of a new cemetery, as the current site is nearly full.

‘Out of the 100 hectares, 4 hectares belong to the government, and N144 million has been allocated for compensating landowners’ he said.

He further highlighted the governor’s commitment to infrastructure development, noting that funds have been made available to all 21 local governments in Kebbi State for the reconstruction of their secretariat buildings.

‘These secretariats have been transformed into modern edifices, showcasing the governor’s dedication to good local governance and development’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
