I Remain A Member Of APC, What I Intend To Achieve With ‘Constructive Criticism’ -El-Rufai

Former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, who made news after criticizing the ruling APC at an event in Abuja on Monday, has submitted that he remains a member of APC while noting that defection was never ‘under consideration’.
Recall that El-Rufai, a one-time FCT minister, had described the state of governance and opposition in the country as a ‘national emergency’ during the national conference held in Abuja by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, the Centre for Democracy and Development, the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, the Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa, and the National Peace Committee.
El-rufai condemned the lack of internal democracy and activation of party structures in the APC.
‘I no longer recognize the APC. No party organ has met in two years — no caucus, no NEC, nothing. You don’t even know if it is a one-man show or it’s a zero-man show’ he submitted while urging political parties to set higher standards for candidates and delegates.
He also said the constitution’s minimum requirement of a secondary school certificate for party nominations needs to be looked into.
The APC was according to him originally established to fight corruption, rebuild the economy, and enhance security while calling on opposition parties to unite and form a broad coalition to challenge the ruling party and safeguard democracy.
The submissions made by El-rufai on Monday had given birth to rumours that he is planning to leave APC.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the former Kaduna State governor has however described the rumours as untrue.
While talking to journalists during the closing ceremony of the two-day national conference El-rufai clarified and asserted that he has no plans to leave the party.
‘I am a founder of the APC. How can I be on my way out? he submitted while noting that he had criticized his party because he wants corrective steps taken.
‘It is because I want them to change’ he added–Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us? Do you want us to cover your event or programme? Kindly send SMS to 08059100286, 09094171980 or get in touch via orientactualmag@gmail.com. Thank you
