Reps Committee Recommending Creation Of 31 New States ‘Ironic’, ‘Comical’ -Shehu Sanni

Former Senator Shehu Sani, who is a human right activist, has commented on the proposition made by the Constitution Review Committee of the House of Representatives seeking to have 31 additional states created in the country.
Recall that the proposal was contained in a letter read out during the plenary session held on Thursday, which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon Benjamin Kalu.
There are currently 36 states in the country and if the new states are eventually created, the number of states in the country will increase to 67.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Sanni reacted to the issue via an X.com post on Friday calling the proposal ‘ironic’ and ‘comical’.
He accused Nigerian politicians of seeking to ‘carve out mini colonies for themselves’.
‘While many states are dependent on federal allocation for their survival, the House of Representatives proposal for 31 states is ironic and comical. Politicians just want to carve out mini colonies for themselves’ he wrote.
It was learned that the committee headed by Kalu has proposed six new states in the North-Central, four in the Northeast, five in the Northwest, five in the South-South, and seven in the Southwest.
The proposed new states include states Okun, Okura and Confluence from Kogi; Benue Ala and Apa from Benue; FCT State; Amana from Adamawa; Katagum from Bauchi; Savannah from Borno; Muri from Taraba; New Kaduna and Gujarat from Kaduna State; Tiga and Ari from Kano; Kainji from Kebbi; Etiti and Orashi as the sixth states in the South-East; Adada from Enugu; and Orlu and Aba. Others are Ogoja from Cross River, Warri from Delta, Ori and Obolo from Rivers, Torumbe from Ondo, Ibadan from Oyo, Lagoon from Lagos, and Ogun, Ijebu from Ogun, and Oke Ogun/Ijesha from Oyo/Ogun/Osun States-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
