Yes, I Would’ve Removed Fuel Subsidy But Would’ve Made It ‘Gradual’ Not ‘Abrupt’-Peter Obi

Former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, who was the LP presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, has submitted that he would have also removed fuel subsidy and floated the naira if he had gotten elected as president two years ago, but would have however done it differently.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Mr Peter Obi, who said this in an interview with Arise News Television on Monday, added that the implementation of the policies introduced by the Tinubu administration were poorly managed.
‘I have consistently maintained that I would have removed the fuel subsidy.
If you go through my manifesto, it is there, along with the steps I would have taken in an organized manner.
There is nothing wrong with the removal of fuel subsidy.
What is wrong is the haphazard way in which it was announced and implemented’ he said.
The ‘petrol subsidy system’, he noted, was synonymous with ‘criminality and corruption’ hence the need to put a stop to it.
‘Since we were told that we removed it because we do not want to borrow, and that the funds would allow for investments in critical infrastructure.
Billions saved. Where is it? Where has it been invested in critical areas of development?
Everybody knows the critical areas of development: education, health, and pulling people out of poverty. Have any of these three improved? No’ he said.
Mr Peter Obi also spoke in support of floating of naira but emphasized the need for groundwork, particularly in boosting domestic production.
‘There is nothing wrong with floating and devaluing your currency. You do this when you have productivity.
In all of this, I would have done the same thing in an organized manner’ he submitted.
