Zamfara Assembly Probes Utilization Of Public Funds, Threatens To Impeach Gov Lawal

Zamfara State House of Assembly has begun probe into utilization of public funds by the Governor Dauda Lawal administration with a special focus on the Yariman Bakura Teaching Hospital, Gusau renovation project which had N9 billion as project cost.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that this was part of the issues raised during the parallel plenary session held in Gusau, the state capital, on Thursday by the lawmakers headed by Hon. Bashar Gummi.

The second group of lawmakers has Speaker Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki as their leader.

The state lawmakers queried how the facility, which was initiated and partly built by the Aliyu Shinkafi  administration and completed by the Abdulaziz Abubakar administration with N1 billion as project cost can now require N9 billion for renovation.

The lawmakers similarly questioned the whereabouts of the sum of N200 billion received by the state government following oil subsidy removal by the Tinubu administration, adding that N20 billion was released to each of the state governors for a period of ten months, amounting to N200 billion.

They also questioned the management of the sum of N49 billion gotten through the NG-CARES programme, aimed at empowering 250 youths from each of the 147 wards in the state, especially those who were displaced through activities of the bandits.

The lawmakers added that the N49 billion NG-CARES was released to the state government following the payment of N2.6 billion counter-fund paid by the Bello Mohammed Matawalle administration.

The lawmakers have demanded a comprehensive explanation from the executive within the next two weeks adding that failure to do this will make the parliament initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor.

The lawmakers also drew the attention of the governor to his administration’s inaction in respect of escalation of insecurity in the state and urged immediate and deliberate measures to put an end to this.

In his contribution to the debate on insecurity, Hon. Aliyu Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South, noted that the governor is no longer in control of the disturbing security situation in the state.

‘Gusau/Maru/Talata Mafara road has now become suicidal to follow at any time of day or night, while the government hardly shows sympathy to the victims’ he said.

Hon Aliyu disclosed that only recently, the bandits collected N17 million from Morai people for the release of their kinsmen while the state government allegedly showed no concern.

The lawmakers submitted that although they supported the governor in respect of the establishment of the Community Protection Guards, he did not however seem to care when members of the guard get killed by the bandits.

Hon. Ibrahim Tudu Tukur from Bakura state constituency urged his colleagues to pass a vote of ‘no confidence’ in Governor Dauda Lawal, who has according to him betrayed the state, especially with respect to security of life and property of citizens.

He was also accused of promoting suspicion, distrust, and disunity among the people while trying to destroy Islamic tenets-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
