KAG Cautions Sahara Reporters Against Fake News As Olusola Adekanola Says Ownership Of Ilorin GRA Property Remains ‘Intact’
The Kwara Awareness Group (KAG) has warned an online news outlet, sahara reporters against fake news noting that misinformation is not only harmful to society but also has negative consequences.
KAG in a statement issued by its Chairman, Mr. Daniel Afolayan, and, Secretary, Mr Ridwan Olalekan in Ilorin on Thursday which was made available to Team@orientactualmags.com said the media report claiming that a popular accountant, Otunba Oluusola Adekanola had sold his property on Abdulrazaq road, GRA, Ilorin to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq which the latter allegedly plans to use as a retirement home is purposefully designed to mislead with motives rooted in political interests.
KAG warned that manipulation of information not only deceives, but also erode faith in institutions and foster division within communities.
The group also urged the online news outlet to avoid the idea of seeking negative emotions to manipulate individuals into believing false or misleading information while adding that efforts are being made to address insecurity in the state.
In separate statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com, the man at the centre of the issue, Otunba Olusola Adekanola has also clarified and asserted that his ownership of the property in question remains ‘intact’.
The popular accountant noted that the building near the Banquet Hall opposite Government House which he had renovated and repainted last year remains his own and not sold to the governor as claimed in the media report in question.
‘My attention has been drawn to a recent publication alleging that I sold my property on Abdulrazaq Road,GRA Ilorin, to His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. This claim is entirely baseless and false. I have not sold the property or indeed any property to the governor, any proxy, or anyone acting on his behalf, and there is no documentation, record, or agreement of any such sale to him.
It is regrettable that my private property has now become a subject of political intrigues and speculation.
As a resident of Kwara State and a taxpayer, I also found perplexing the claim that the governor has fixed roads around GRA because he lives there. This is an unbelievable resort to crass populism, given the wide publicity of the many road infrastructure that the Abdulrazaq administration has done across the metropolis and in every part of the state. This is what we can all see.
The attempt to criminalize the renewal works and upgrade of road networks in GRA, some of which were constructed in the 1970s, amounts to unfair hatred for senior citizens and their families who reside there and are members of the same Kwara community. We are taxpayers, and we deserve a fair taste of what our government can do to improve our life expectancy as citizens. This is our understanding of the new road networks, especially the decent walkways across the metropolis. To portray these important public works as private projects is an unfair distortion of reality.
