Niger Govt Tightens Control On Clerics, Gives Preachers 2 Months To Get License
To strengthen communication with imams and preachers and also ‘regulate’ activities, Niger State Government has made passing ‘security clearance’ before delivering religious messages or sermons mandatory for preachers in the state.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the Director-General of the State Religious Affairs Department, Umar Farooq, who disclosed this development in a telephone interview with the correspondent of a national newspaper on Thursday, added that preachers are required to get the ‘license’ in question within two months.
‘It is true. The state government has banned unlicensed preaching. Any preacher who wants to preach must secure a licence within the next two months. All they need to do is visit our office, obtain and fill out the form, after which they will face a screening panel before being cleared to preach’ he said-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
