Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate To Algeria, Mohammed Lele, Dies At 50

Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Algeria, Mr Mohammed Mahmud Lele, is dead.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Lele’s death in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa.

The statement noted that Mr Lele died in the early hours of April 19, 2026, in Ankara, Türkiye, after a prolonged illness.

The ministry described the late diplomat as a dedicated officer who served the country with distinction.

 ‘The late Ambassador Lele, until his death after a prolonged illness, was the Director in charge of the Middle East and Gulf Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  Ambassador Lele, a career diplomat, was recently appointed as Ambassador-designate to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the Nigerian Senate’s confirmation of his nomination’ the statement said.

Mr Lele was born in 1976 in Gamawa, Bauchi State, and he studied Economics at Bayero University, Kano.

The deceased diplomat, who died at 50, served at Nigerian missions in Berlin, Lomé and Riyadh.

‘Ambassador Lele was known for his intellectual depth, strategic insight and commitment to the advancement of Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives’ the statement added.

 Islamic funeral prayer (Salatul Janazah) was held for Mr Lele in Kano on Wednesday.
