Osun APC To Police: Violence Not In Our Character, Launch Investigation Into Alleged Attempt On Ataoja of Osogbo’s Life In 2022

Osun State APC has emphasized the need for the state police command to probe the recent assassination attempt disclosure by one of the prominent traditional rulers in the state, the Ataoja of Osogboland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, Larooye II.

The monarch had disclosed that an attempt was made on his life ahead of the 2022 governorship election .

The party said investigating the assassination attempt disclosure is necessary in order to ensure that those who were responsible for the incident are arrested and prosecuted while it will also help to set the record in proper perspective.

‘It will be recalled that the Ataoja was reported to have disclosed during the endorsement of Governor Ademola Adeleke for second term by the spare parts traders in Ajegunle area of Osogbo, the state capital, on Saturday that he escaped an assassination attempt as some hoodlums shot sporadically into his palace.

There is a need for urgent and thorough investigation of the disclosure that an attempt was made on the monarch’s life by unknown hoodlums because it was a grievous one which does not portray the image of the state well outside the state.

It should also be of interest to the right-thinking members of the public why the alleged attempt on the life of such a foremost Yoruba monarch was not documented at the nearest police station and if it was reported to the police, why the police had kept a sealed lip over an incident of such magnitude?

It will also be of interest to the discerning members of the public to know the identity of some of the residents of the Ataoja Palace who were reportedly wounded during the said attack and the degrees of the injuries they sustained.

Gunshot wounds cannot be treated under the table in a cosmopolitan state capital like Osogbo, it will further breathe life and authenticity into the investigation of the royal assertion if the name of the hospital and the medical doctor that treated the alleged residents of the Ataoja Palace are volunteered to the police to further strengthen the claim’ Osun State APC submitted in a statement made available to Team@orietactualmags.com by its spokesman, Chief Kola Olabisi.

Asserting that violence is not in our character, the party also urged members of the public who have any useful information on the alleged attempt on Ataoja of Osogbo’s life not to hesitate to help the police in this regard.

‘It is necessary for the police to expedite action on the investigation of this allegation in order to clear some knotty issues surrounding it.

Why such a grievous allegation of an assassination attempt escaped the reportorial lenses of both the social and traditional media should also be investigated by the various media houses that either have their head offices in Osogbo or are having their correspondents in the state.
