Journalists Will Soon Begin To Join Nigerian Troops In Operations-Defence Minister

The Federal Government has disclosed plans to allow journalists join Nigerian troops in operations and this may make them get integrated directly into military units to report on deployments, training, and combat situations.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, who said this during the National Security Summit organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Abuja, also noted that this will help to improve security reporting and give the public greater insight into the realities of counterinsurgency and other internal security efforts.

Represented by his Special Adviser, Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole, the minister said the proposed idea will foster closer collaboration between the media and security agencies while also helping to promote transparency in military activities.

The media, he added, plays important role in shaping public perception and opinion in respect of security operations and national stability while noting that security management now extends beyond conventional battlefields as modern conflicts are increasingly influenced by information and narratives, making the media an important stakeholder in the country’s security architecture.

 ‘More than ever before, media practitioners are not only enablers; they are stabilizers of government.

The defence ministry is working towards having  journalists integrated with military units during operations to enable more accurate reporting and deeper understanding of operational realities’ he said.

Retired General Musa noted that the initiative is part of the broader efforts by the ministry to strengthen engagement with the media and ensure that information about military operations is conveyed accurately to the public while adding that improved cooperation between journalists and security agencies will contribute to building public trust and enhancing national security outcomes-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
