Young Woman Who Disobeyed Oloolu Festival’s Taboo Sought ‘Spiritual Cleansing’ After Experiencing Slow Internal Blood Loss-Olubadan’s Media Aide

Wasilat, a female Tiktoker, who partially disobeyed the taboos of Oloolu masquerade festival in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, a few days ago, had voluntarily made herself available for ‘spiritual cleansing’ after discovering that she was experiencing a slow internal blood loss.

According to Punch Newspaper, Spokesperson for Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Ladoja ,Chief Adeola Oloko, who said this on Monday, also clarified and asserted that Wasilat did not take a video of  the Oloolu masquerade but rather its principal disciple, Alawo Oloolu.

Oloolu masquerade festival is held annually in Ibadan and it has strict traditional rules against women seeing it.

The festival is traced back to the experience of an Ibadan warrior, Ayorinde Aje when he fought in Ogbagi, a town in Ondo State.

He overcame the invisible local war spirit and also captured its guide. Ayorinde subsequently brought the costume to his family compound in Ode Aje, Ibadan.

It is said to be crowned with a human female skull .

 The 2026 Oloolu Festival was held from Monday, July 27 to Thursday, July 30.

Chief Adeola Oloko also clarified and submitted that Wasilat did not take the video of Oloolu masquerade.

‘She did not capture Oloolu; she mistook it for Alawo. We contacted the Mogaji of the Oloolu compound, and he confirmed that a woman who mistook Alawo of Oloolu for the real Oloolu masquerade captured it on the street.

After posting it, she realized that she was experiencing a slow internal blood loss. So, her family reached out to the Oloolu people immediately, and they attended to her in accordance with the tradition of the land.

 We have told people to obey simple instructions; women are not supposed to see Oloolu, but out of curiosity, she disobeyed’ he said.

Commenting on the narratives promoted on social media that she had dressed as a man to hide her identity and take the video, Oloko said he could not confirm the veracity or otherwise of such claims.

‘I cannot confirm if she disguised herself as a man. Those are accounts on social media. But she took the footage or photo on the street’ he said.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Wasilat has described media reports claiming that she is dead as untrue while also clarifying that she did not take the video of the popular masquerade as alleged.

‘I am not dead. I did not capture the Oloolu masquerade. May I not be implicated; I did not record Oloolu.

What happened that day, last Thursday, around the Oremeji axis, I didn’t know what prompted me to go to our shop because I was at home.

When I got to the shop, I didn’t even open the door. I just stayed in front of the shop because we have left the area.

When I saw people passing, I saw an Amotekun corps vehicle passing. Oloolu did not even pass through that route.

So, I filmed it and posted it on social media. Everyone in the TikTok comment section asked me to delete it. The following day, while I was at the shop, they came to meet me there.

I do not know why the eyewitnesses on Thursday did not defend me.
