NAF: Crashed Helicopter Belongs To Us…Rescue, Investigation Underway
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Monday afternoon confirmed that it is the owner of the helicopter that crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government, Ondo State earlier in the day.
The ill-fated aircraft, an ATR-42, was said to be on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when it crashed in the early hours of Monday, October 5, 2026.
The crash occurred in Larada Street area of Ilaje with reports indicating that it plunged into a river.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, who issued a statement to react to the incident, said the air force had immediately commenced a search and rescue operation while noting that investigation is underway.
The operation, he added, is being conducted in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies.
‘The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced an immediate Search and Rescue operation following an ATR-42 aircraft accident in Igbokoda Area of Ondo State on 5th October 2026’ he said.
In the meanwhile, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo has confirmed that 25 passengers and seven crew members were aboard the aircraft.
The helicopter with registration number NGR 931, which disappeared from radar after air traffic controllers lost contact with it at about 9:13 a.m. while it was travelling from Benin to Lagos.
