2027 Presidential Race: Drama In Osun As APC Rejects Gov Adeleke’s 12-Hour Notice For Campaign Committee

Osun State APC has dissociated itself from the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Committee for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election in the state, noting that the party was never briefed or consulted by Governor Ademola Adeleke, who announced the setting up of the committee in question.

The event which is being coordinated by Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is the state Coordinator of the Presidential Campaign Council, is scheduled to take place today in Osogbo today.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the state APC Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the party leadership criticized the manner in which the campaign council was put together, describing the process as rushed and disrespectful of official party protocol.

‘We are talking about the president’s re-election bid under the largest democratic party in the Sub-Sahara Africa and not the election of a council chairman or that of a councilor which is the reason such an exercise should be approached with the highest official protocol required to ease the accomplishment of the exercise’ the statement said.

The party noted that it had no prior knowledge of the arrangement outside of a social media list of names released on Wednesday afternoon by Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed. Lawal added that giving less than 12 hours’ notice intentionally shuts out key stakeholders, leaders, and loyal members from participating.

 Osun State APC further alleged that publishing the committee roster less than 24 hours before the event without consulting the state party leadership is a deliberate ploy to create friction between the state chapter of the party and President Tinubu.

‘We consider the project as our baby which shouldn’t be handled with levity’ the party asserted, warning that the current setup is designed to stoke an avoidable misunderstanding.

Sooko Lawal also noted that the state chapter of the party is not opposed to the appointment of Governor Adeleke as the state coordinator of the campaign council.

‘In our view, the current arrangement of the said state Presidential Campaign Committee was designed to stoke and promote an avoidable misunderstanding between our party and the appointed state coordinator of the campaign in the state which we shall try as much as possible to avoid.

We are reiterating the fact that we are not opposed to conceding anything for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election ahead of the upcoming presidential election but our concern is that things should be done in a proper way to achieve desired results.
