2027 Kwara Guber: Speaker Danladi Touts Academic Excellence, 7-Year Budgeting Experience And Legislative Track Record
Kwara State APC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, on Friday asserted himself as the most uniquely qualified candidate to lead the state ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Speaking as a guest on the ‘News Keg’ programme of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, Hon Danladi, who is the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, noted that his strong scholastic achievements, extensive budgeting experience, and role as a principal participant in governance over the last seven years are proof of his readiness for the top job.
Speaker Danladi described the Danladi-Adato governorship ticket as a ‘collective guber ticket’ that belongs to all citizens of the State of Harmony, emphasizing that he possesses the required academic knowledge and hands-on experience to successfully occupy the driver’s seat.
Highlighting his academic background, the Speaker noted that he attended Kaduna Polytechnic, where he studied Mechanical Engineering and graduated with Upper Credit at both the OND and HND levels, emerging as one of the best graduating students.
He added that he holds a Second Class Upper degree from the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
Reflecting on his leadership of the state parliament, Speaker Danladi noted that the infrastructure and transformation achievements seen across Kwara’s 193 wards under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq are the direct results of effective collaboration between the legislature and the executive adding that the two arms of government have successfully worked together while maintaining their constitutional roles.
Turning to his personal scorecard within his Ilesha-Gwanara state constituency, the Speaker detailed his impact on local infrastructure, noting that he has effectively resolved the water crisis in Baruten Local Government by constructing 201 boreholes at different locations in the area.
He added that his interventions include renovation of 18 basic health centres and 28 blocks of classrooms while also facilitating the completion of the 33km Ilesha-Gwanara road project.
The APC guber candidate also paid tribute to his family legacy, noting that his late father, a royal, was instrumental in establishing the primary school in Gwanara, his hometown and to sustain this legacy, he has not only completely renovated the school in question but also fully equipped it with modern ICT facilities.
Speaker Danladi also submitted that with the support of Governor Abdulrazaq, he facilitated the establishment of the Federal Science and Technical College in Gwanara, which has since become operational.
On security in his constituency and the entire Baruten Local Government, he noted that apart from providing support for conventional security agencies, he also sponsored training for 300 vigilantes who have been mobilized to provide security for residents.
He took a swipe at opposition parties claiming they want to ‘rescue’ the state, asking rhetorically, ‘Rescue Kwara from what?’.
Speaker Danladi also asserted that Governor Abdulrazaq has laid a strong foundation for the growth and development of the state, adding that continuity in governance will ensure that there is no derailment.
‘Governor Abdulrazaq has laid foundations for Kwara and we must build on them. He has done very well’ he said.
Regarding the reactions that greeted his ‘best man for the job’ comments during an interview with BBC News Yoruba, he reasserted that he is the most qualified contestant for the position, citing his budgeting experience.
‘I said I am the most experienced among the contestants, and I said so because I have presided over the state’s budgeting exercise for seven years now. I have firsthand knowledge and information about these things’ he said.
