UBEC Fund Comments: Saraki Carries Out Legal Threat … Demands N20b , Retraction From Gov Abdulrazaq

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has asked Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state to issue a formal retraction, a letter of apology that will be published by three national newspapers and pay him N20 billion or get ready for a legal battle.

It will be recalled that the former senate president had in a statement issued in Ilorin a few days ago, and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Mr.  Abdulganiyu  Abdulqadir, who is his Press Officer on Local Matters, threatened to take a legal action against the governor while giving him a 7 –day ultimatum to retract the statement in question.

Saraki had since shown that it was not an empty threat after all as his  lawyer,  Aare Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has addressed a letter to the governor threatening a legal action.

In the said letter dated December 30, 2022, Chief Afe Babalola described  the statement that Governor AbdulRazaq made during the inauguration of  Campaign Council set up by the Kwara Central APC senate candidate, Mallam Salihu Mustapha as defamatory.

Afe Babalola chambers made reference to the story published by the Daily Trust Newspaper on December 26, 2023 quoting  the governor as saying:

‘I went to Abuja to ask UBEC why Kwara was blacklisted for seven years and  I was told the funds have been embezzled. But when I enquired why UBEC did not prosecute them, they said their leader (Saraki) was the Senate President and they would have a problem defending and getting their budget approved if they had taken such an  action’.

Justifying the steps taken by Saraki, Chief Afe Babalola also said :

‘Our client’s reputation  and estimation before several members of his local  community,   allies , friends,  family members, political supporters, business associates and contacts both in Nigeria and abroad  have suffered substantially  on account of your statement  . Our client suffered and continues to suffer considerable psychological trauma due to your statement’.

Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki  , who is the Waziri of Ilorin, served as governor of Kwara state between 2003 and  2011.

He was also a member of the Nigerian Senate between 2011 and 2019 and he was the  13th President of the Senate- Team@orientactualmags.com
