Actress Halimah Abubakar Talks About Health Battle, Colleagues Who Abandoned Her

Halima Abubakar, a popular actress, has opened up about a dark period in her life, revealing how she felt abandoned by Nollywood stakeholders during a severe illness.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the popular actress , who said this in an interview with a national daily, lamented the isolation she experienced, explaining that many people she had expected to support her failed to even check on her.

Despite the silence from her peers, Abubakar expressed deep gratitude for her survival, noting that it was ultimately God who preserved her life when others had written her off.

‘They just left me to die, but God said I will live.

So many people didn’t expect me to survive, but I am here. I saw everything. Everybody’s character and the judgment they passed, I saw everything’ he said.

Commenting on her relationship with colleagues in the industry, the actress clarified that she does not harbor bitterness, attributing the abandonment to misinformation and an unfair suspension by guild leadership.

 According to the popular actress, she was placed on an indefinite suspension without a proper investigation into her side of the story, and no one from the association visited or reached out during her health crisis.

‘I didn’t say they abandoned me. We are not friends. You know how it is in an industry. When one person says one thing, every other person assumes that’s the truth.

If somebody said something that was presumably said by me, the proper thing to do was to call me and ask me. You don’t go behind after telling me to write a report, and I wrote that report, you didn’t act on the report, and then you just gave me an indefinite suspension’ she said.

Submitting that the experience has completely transformed her perspective on life, Halimah emphasized that she has moved past the hurt and chosen not to judge her colleagues, acknowledging that they may have been fed with a false narrative.

‘God has worked in me heavily because without God in my life, I don’t know what I would have done. But, it doesn’t change the love I have for my colleagues. We’re not talking about the past. We’re talking about the future, and I’m a changed person’ she added.

While many turned their backs, Halimah  Abubakar said some showed her kindness when she reached out for help specially praising musician Patoranking for his support during the period in question.

‘Among the musicians that I reached out to, Patoranking was one of the wonderful ones. I really appreciate him. I sent messages to Don Jazzy over 19 times but he never replied. Ahmed Musa was kind to me, too.

But Mercy (Eke), Big Brother, shocked me the most, and I’m so grateful for her, and a few of my junior colleagues, including Destiny Etiko, Lizzy Gold, Monica Friday, Queeneth Agbor, and Regina Daniels, who gave me the biggest support, in terms of free medical treatment.
