Ancestry Debate: Family Releases Historical Pictures To Affirm Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour’s Yoruba Roots
The Rhodes-Vivour family has released historical pictures and documents to prove that Lagos State ADC governorship candidate, Mr Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour is a bonafide Yoruba man.
‘We have observed a deliberate attempt to distract the public with falsehoods against a family whose history and pedigree in Lagos State is so well documented and preserved’ the family said in a statement made available on X.com on Saturday while noting that this was done to stop the ancestry debate.
‘To stop this, we hereby present: The Rhodes-Vivour Family Archives’ the statement added..

The digital collection, hosted on the family’s website, rhodesvivour.com, contains historical photographs, manuscripts, official documents and narratives tracing the Rhodes-Vivour family’s involvement in commerce, law, public service and military service.

The Rhodes-Vivours was described as a multi-generational Lagos family of Saro descent, a term used in describing Africans who returned from Sierra Leone to parts of West Africa, including formerly enslaved people who were liberated and resettled.
Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour was the LP guber candidate in the 2023 governorship election.
His ancestry became a topic for debate following his failure to speak Yoruba fluently at the 2026 Independence Day edition of The Platform, an event held in Lagos a few days ago.
He later noted that while language is important, his main agenda is to focus on governance.-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
