Defence Minister Warns State Govts Against Negotiating With Bandits, Urges Citizens Not Provide ‘Logistical Support’
Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa has warned state governments against negotiating with bandits noting that doing that is not only dangerous but counter-productive, and also poses a threat to national security.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the Defence minister, who said this in an interview with BBC Hausa service, added that the Federal Government has consistently warned all levels of government against negotiating with armed groups who cannot be trusted in respect of keeping their word.
‘The Federal Government’s position is clear. There would be no negotiated settlements, no ransom payments, and no legitimization of armed groups terrorizing communities’ he said.
The Defence minister emphasized the need for state governors to be on the same page with the federal government with regard to its security strategy noting that sustained military pressure, intelligence-led operations, and community cooperation remain the only viable path to restoring peace.
