El-Rufai Reacts To Being Abandoned By Friends, Says Adversity Illuminates Relationships
Former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has declared that he bears no hatred or resentment towards former colleagues, friends, and family members who have deserted him in his current circumstances while submitting that ‘adversity illuminates relationships’..
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, a one-time Minister for FCT, who said this in a statement that was made available on his X.com account which was titled ‘My Relationships and the Aftermath’, also reflected on loyalty, betrayal, and his ongoing political isolation.
Submitting that his lifelong support for people and causes are driven by his Islamic faith, Arewa upbringing, and personal conscience, he also noted that it was never an expectation of praise or reciprocity.
Acknowledging that the tables have turned, he granted his former allies the freedom to navigate his adversity as they see fit, whether through silence, distance, or outright denial of their past associations.
“Over the years, I have stood by people and for causes I believed in, sometimes in difficult circumstances and at considerable personal cost. I did so not in expectation of praise or reciprocity.
Those I have supported are free to make their own choices now that circumstances are reversed. Some may speak; others may remain silent. Others may even deny our relationship or try rewriting history.
Their reasons are their own, and I do not wish to judge them merely because their response differs from what others—or even I—might have expected.
Adversity has a way of illuminating relationships’ he said.
The former FCT minister added that his current challenges and experience may make him ‘reconsider the nature of certain relationships and what those that look up to me expect of them’.
‘That is neither reproach nor condemnation; it is simply part of seeing people, and life, more clearly,
I have no regrets about standing by people or for causes when I believed it was right to do so, and I bear no resentment towards anyone who chooses not to do the same for me.
“As for any injustice, ingratitude or injury done to me, I seek neither revenge nor retribution. Ultimate accountability belongs to Almighty Allah, and I leave that judgment to Him, in this world and in the Hereafter.
In the end, each of us must live with the choices we make, and posterity will render whatever verdict it sees fit. My only concern is to remain at peace with my conscience and, above all, with Almighty Allah’ he added.
Recall that Mallam Nasir El-rufai, who is facing multiple charges bordering on alleged financial misconduct, money laundering, and abuse of office during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State between 2015 and 2023, was taken into custody by ICPC on February 18, 2026.
He later had charges preferred against him by ICPC and was first taken to court on March 24, 2026.
Mallam Nasir El-rufai, an ADC bigwig, has spent over 200 days in detention and there has been protests and condemnation.
Family members, supporters, youth groups, and his loyalists including Senator Lawal Adamu Usman have staged rallies and protests in Abuja and Kaduna.
