I Withdrew My Candidacy, Didn’t Lose Reps Primary Election-Cubana Chief Priest
Celebrity businessman, Mr Pascal Okechukwu, who is popularly called Cubana Chief Priest, has clarified and asserted that contrary to media reports, he did not lose House of Representatives primary election because he had earlier backed out of the race.
Pascal, who had sought Orsu/Orlu/Oru East APC reps nomination, said he had withdrawn his candidacy at the instance of Governor Hope Uzodimma, who had cited ‘zoning arrangement’.
Canice Nwachukwu had on Saturday won Orsu/Orlu/Oru East APC reps election while Pascal got only 14 votes.
Submitting that he is a loyal party man and a committed progressive, Pascal said Governor Uzodimma had explained to him that the party’s zoning arrangement requires that Orlu LGA should complete at least two terms before the parliament seat will be occupied by people from other local governments in the federal constituency.
‘He made the argument that it is not the turn of my Local Government Area to occupy the parliament seat at this time, especially considering that my elder brother, Asiwaju Jerry Alagboso, had previously served three terms in the House.
My decision and resolve to aspire for the office was born out of my conviction that the current holder of the office was not living up to the expectations and aspirations of our people.
In respect for the party and its leadership, I chose not to proceed to the field, and indeed, I never did. Nobody will say they saw me anywhere around the primaries venue. In fact I did not participate. As I headed straight back to Lagos.
Immediately the party’s decision was communicated to me in the early hours of Saturday before the primaries, I stayed away completely in respect of the leadership and the internal understanding reached’ he said.
Mr Pascal also reacted to being mocked on social media by Nigerians submitting that it is ‘laughable that some misguided elements are attempting to use my name for unnecessary trending and online propaganda’.
‘I am not indebted to anybody over my aspiration. The aspiration was entirely mine, driven by my personal conviction and desire to serve’ he submitted while adding that he has ‘absolutely no regret whatsoever in raising the political stakes and consciousness’ in Orsu/Orlu/Oru East federal constituency ahead of the primaries.
‘The APC remains my party, today and always. I remain loyal and committed to the ideals and leadership of our great party’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
