Kwara Christian Leaders To President Tinubu: Support Agitation For ‘Christian Governor’ In Our State To Promote Fairness, Inclusion
Ahead of the 2027 General Election, the Conglomerate of Kwara State Christian Communities has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support agitation for a ‘Christian governor’ in the State of Harmony while also emphasizing the need for him to take action in this regard by ensuring the emergence of a Christian as the state APC gubernatorial candidate.

Presiding over the press conference held at the secretariat of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Ilorin on Monday which was attended by journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com, convener of the group, Reverend Felix Ajide emphasized the need to promote principles of fairness, inclusion and equity in Kwara politics while clarifying and noting however that its demand should not be seen as a promotion of ‘religious politics’, but rather a request for a balance that will accommodate all sections of the state without making competence and capacity insignificant.

According to the group, Kwara’s political future should be shaped by the emergence of leaders with the ability, experience and broad acceptability to drive development.
‘Our appeal is not about religion replacing competence. Rather, it is about ensuring that competence is given the opportunity to thrive within an inclusive political framework’ the group said.
The Christian community cited findings from the Africa Polling Institute (API), which showed that Kwarans are willing to support candidates based on competence rather than religious identity.
The group said the survey indicated that 90 per cent of Muslim respondents are willing to support a competent Christian candidate, while 98 per cent of Christian respondents are also willing to support a competent Muslim candidate. It added that 93 per cent of respondents expressed willingness to support a good candidate irrespective of religious background.
The group argued that the findings in question reflected Kwara’s tradition of religious tolerance and demonstrated that voters are more interested in leadership qualities rather than faith considerations.
Ajide also noted that Kwara State APC has Christian politicians within its ranks including Engr. Femi Sanni, who is popularly called Araba, and Dr. Toyin Alabi who have the experience and capacity to govern the state.

Having a Christian guber candidate in the APC will according to him promote a sense of belonging among different segments of the state and strengthen unity.
The group urged President Tinubu, who is the APC National Leader, to take into account the aspirations of the Christian community when decisions are made regarding the party’s gubernatorial nomination ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Rev. Felix Ajide added that the group remains committed to peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in the state and will support any process that will produce competent and people-centred leadership-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
