Kwara South: Nurudeen Adeyemi Points Out Anomaly In Outcomes Of APC Primary Elections But Urges Respect For Party Supremacy

Kwara South: Nurudeen Adeyemi Points Out Anomaly In Outcomes Of APC Primary Elections But Urges Respect For Party Supremacy

Chief Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun, an aerospace engineer, held an important meeting with APC members, leaders and stakeholders in Kwara South on Saturday which was designed to create a platform to share information and provide an update on the outcomes of the party’s recent primaries.

Addressing party members and supporters at the meeting held at his Ilorin residence, Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun explained reasons why he launched senate bid in 2018, 2022, and also joined the senate race for the third time ahead of the 2027 General Election noting that he had done this because of his passion to serve the people.

He also cited his overwhelming devotion and commitment to helping and advocating for others.

Engineer Adeyemi noted that occupying a senate seat is a viable platform to impact countless lives if necessary steps are taken to maximize opportunities.

A good and active senator, he noted, will through lawmaking, oversight functions and other legislative duties improve the lives of his or her constituents if there is selfless drive that motivates him or her to prioritize the needs of his or her community above personal comfort.

Justifying his decision to join others in promoting the ‘Igbomina lokan campaign’, Engineer Adeyemi said he had all along been known as one who champions justice and equity which he has always placed above personal interests.

‘In 2015 when I joined politics, and I was telling people about my political aspirations and the senate bid I was advised to join the reps race and I said ‘no’ because the then occupant of the parliament seat, Hon Funke Adedoyin being from Irepodun local government , the reps seat should ordinarily go to other local governments in 2019.

,

After the senate primary had been held and I did not get party nomination, Hon Funke Adedoyin suddenly died and some people came to meet me and urged me to seek party nomination and contest the by–election and I said ‘no’ it should go to Ekiti local government. The omoluabi ethos will not allow me to change my stance because of personal interests’ he said.

He also recalled how Kwara South people naturally stayed away from APC guber nomination in 2019 because the then governor , Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, who was about to complete his constitutionally-allowed two terms of eight years, is from the senatorial district.

Noting that the efforts to promote ‘Igbomina lokan campaign’ produced desired results as only two people from Offa sought APC senate nomination, Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi emphasized the need to present a capable person who can maximize opportunities and who is seen by all as a widely accepted candidate.

Such a person, he added, must have broad appeal across diverse voter demographics in order to win General Election with ease.

‘Becoming a candidate is just one of the stages in the nomination process, winning the main election is far more important. Winning the General Election is not easy.  Goodwill of the people within the party and even among the opposition is an important requirement and I have this in abundance.

The little opportunity I have gotten to serve, I tried my best to be there for the people.  A senator or reps member is not a boss to the constituents but rather their servant.   Political office holders are expected to be answerable and accountable to the people. My senate bid is not about Nurudeen Adeyemi, it is not a personal ambition but rather for the people’ he said.

Showing confident feeling about the future, Engineer Adeyemi submitted that ‘In politics, it is not over, until it is over and 24 hours is a long time’.

With the July 11 deadline issued by the nation’s electoral body, INEC, he pointed out an anomaly in the current list of candidates which he described as imbalance and a deviation from omoluabi ethos.

He noted that while the ‘Igbomina lokan campaign’ and its messages remain sacrosanct, it will be considered as unfair to ‘corner’ three parliament seats at the federal level out of the nine parliament seats in the state.

Engineer Adeyemi also cited the town of the senate candidate and the town of the reps candidate which are situated close to one another,

He expressed hope that the leadership of the party will take steps to correct the anomaly he has pointed out while noting however that whatever the case may be, party supremacy must be respected.

‘If nothing is done, we must all respect party supremacy, every politics is local. If I am the candidate I will need the support of the people and other stakeholders. Whatever the case may be, we must respect the decision of the party. I know some people may have pinned their hopes on us because they believe we will deliver quality representation, however we must respect party supremacy.. We have been in opposition and we are now in government, nothing is comparable to being in government. Someone who did not get today may get tomorrow’ he said.

Engineer Adeyemi emphasized the need for all to prioritize the interests of the party and focus more on ensuring its electoral success and place party cohesion and collective goals ahead of individual gains to ensure victory at the polls. He also urged continued support for the Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration..

Using the opportunity to comment on his relationship with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq which he described as ‘excellent’, Engineer Adeyemi also said the governor prioritizes his happiness, growth and well-being.

Engineer Adeyemi said he will remain grateful to the governor for facilitating his appointment as a member of the Board of Trustees of TETFUND (North Central) while adding that he will continue to hold him in high esteem

He also emphasized the need for members of the party in the state to ensure that APC delivers 35-0 in the upcoming 2027 general election.

‘We have no option than to do our best to ensure that our party delivers 35-0. We have a leader, the governor, Alade baba Faruq and he remains our leader.

At one of the meetings held in Abuja a few days ago, while addressing the traditional rulers and other stakeholders, the governor said if he has the exclusive authority and the power to determine who will get the senate nomination, the person who he will bestow it on was right there in the hall with him and I was the only one there.

We have spoken in private and in public and I know what he has told me. We have to work for the party.

If we don’t deliver our federal constituency and senatorial district how do we ask for goodies for our people after the elections? I will support the party and I will provide needed support. I know that some people may be aggrieved but we have not lost anything, we have only invested, we did everything humanly possible and the contacts we have made will continue to remain useful’ he added.

Hon David Aremu, who is popularly called DOSA, praised Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi’s well-thought-out submissions and instructions while noting that anyone who truly loves him must ‘toe the line’.

Also speaking, Professor Bashir Olaitan Ibrahim, who noted that the ENACT Team will remain ‘one family, also urged supporters to support any decision taken by the ENACT Principal in the interests of the group.
