KWHA: Gbenga Awoyale’s Recent Comments And Vulnerability Of Shola Odetundun’s Re-election Bid
Hon Shola Odetundun, who represents Irepodun state constituency in Kwara State House of Assembly, is interested in retaining his parliament seat next year and he has been getting in touch with party leaders to put in good word for him and urge Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and other important stakeholders to support his re-election bid.
To lubricate and enhance his connection with his constituents, Hon Odetundun held an empowerment programme in Omu-Aran last week.
Birds whispered that what happened during the event had since become a source of worry to the state lawmaker and his supporters.
The federal lawmaker from the constituency, Rep Raheem Olawuyi, the member of the state executive council from the constituency, who is the Commissioner for Information, Hon Bolanle Olukoju, the Deputy Chief of Staff , Government House, Princess Bukola Babalola, Mr Ibrahim Kawu, who is Irepodun local government APC Chairman, the Senatorial chairman, Anthony Olabanji and other important stakeholders were conspicuous by their absence.

While some among the state lawmaker’s supporters may have seen this as a reason to worry, the comments made by the leader of Orisun Igbomina, Chief Gbenga Awoyale at the event has worsened matters.
Hon Odetundun’s supporters are reportedly worried that this may pose a threat to his re-election bid.
Making reference to the incident that occurred during the 2026 APC National Convention in Abuja, Chief Awoyale, who made a clarification that he only confronted the affected prominent people from Irepodun local government to ‘fight for his right’, also noted that he is already singing their political death song because they will no longer be relevant in Irepodun local government politics.
An APC member in the local government told Team@orientactualmags.com that the incident at Eagle Square, Abuja involved a prominent Nigerian, who owns a flourishing private university, a former commissioner and a top government official who are still struggling to move past what they wished were not true.
She also picked holes in Chief Awoyale’s assertions that he ‘fought for his right’ while adding that his comments during the empowerment programme have further incensed the people in question who have consequently considered Hon Odetundun as someone who condones instead of condemning an unruly act.
‘Chief Awoyale attacked them because he wanted convention badges for himself and two other people which he eventually collected from the state Youth Leader meaning that he had actually fought for the wrong reasons. The people he attacked had their own convention badges and he had accused them of taking possession of the convention badges meant for him and two others’ she said.
That was not all, Chief Awoyale also made an inciting comment during the Omu-Aran event that ahead of the APC House of Assembly primary election in Irepodun State Constituency , if Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq gives a directive in respect of party nomination that is not in favour of Hon Odetundun or in support of his candidacy, it will be met with stiff opposition from the people of the constituency.
While what he said was a viewpoint based on his own perspective and not a ‘consensus view’, political pundits are saying that it may be seen as a resolve to tackle the governor if the outcome does not go in Odetundun’s favour-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
