15 final year students at Madonna University, Elele Campus, Rivers State have reportedly faced punitive actions following their roles in a viral video.
Recall that the students in question were seen in the video dancing in a hospital waiting area, staircase, and other places.
Madonna University, which is the first private Catholic university in West Africa, has three campuses at three different locations; Elele, Rivers State; Okija, Anambra State; and Akpugo, Enugu State
Mercy, who featured in the opening seconds of the clip dancing in a hospital hallway, reportedly received her expulsion letter during the week.
The students in question had taken the video as part of a social media trend called ‘Gen Z nurses challenge’, featuring healthcare workers dancing in clinical settings.
They had their own video titled ‘No fall sick o, na Gen Z full hospital now’.
Although the video was uploaded in August, bloggers however began to feast on it early last month.
A 15-second version of the video published by Yabaleftonline on September 1 had gathered over 1.7 million views on X by Saturday.
The video was recorded on the premises of the university’s Elele campus.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that a medical influencer and TikTok content creator, Nurse Girma (@nurse_girma), made it become a topical issue on social media after appealing to the institution to pardon the affected students.
‘The information reaching us from last night and this morning is that the owner of the account has been expelled and other students involved have been served suspension’ Girma submitted in a video he posted on Friday,
‘Yesterday night, unfortunately, the senate of her school handed out an expulsion letter and every other person involved, a suspension letter.
I know what has happened has happened, but I want to appeal to the school to temper justice with mercy; when it came to me that she is a 500-level student, it really melted my heart’ he added.
Commenting on the issue, the university’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Chima Achu, said the institution will issue an official statement in this regard tomorrow, Monday, September 5, 2026-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
