Offa Robbery Case: Allegations Raised Against Me False, Baseless-Former Gov Ahmed
Former governor of Kwara State ,Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has condemned the decision taken by the state government to file charges against him and others in respect of the robbery incident that occurred in Offa in 2018 describing the allegations raised against him in the 20-count charge as ‘false, baseless, and politically motivated’.
In a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com, the former governor said it is an attempt to use state institutions to victimize political opponents.
Submitting that the case is a recycled political narrative, Alhaji Ahmed argued that the matter had already gone through extensive investigation and judicial review at the federal level and he had gotten cleared of wrongdoing.
He also noted that while serving as governor, he respected due process and never interfered with security or judicial investigations, adding that he has ‘no link, direct or indirect’ to the robbery incident in question.
The charges filed against him, he noted, are not rooted in new evidence but rather in ‘discredited claims and recycled testimonies’ aimed at reshaping political narratives ahead of future elections.
Alhaji Ahmed further alleged that the timing of the case raises concerns about its intent, suggesting that it is meant to distract the public from pressing governance issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, and infrastructure challenges in the state.
He expressed confidence in the judiciary noting that he believes that the courts will not be used as tools for political manipulation and that truth will ultimately prevail.
The former governor, who insisted that the step taken by the state government is politically motivated and aimed at damaging reputations rather than delivering justice, urged the people of the state to remain calm and not be distracted by what he called ‘a calculated attempt to divide the state’.
