Ogun East Senate Seat: Senator Daniel Denied Access To Meeting Venue As APC Stakeholders Endorse Gov Abiodun
It was a histrionic moment and a dramatic scene at Adeola Odutola Hall, Ijebu-Ode on Monday as APC stakeholders in Ogun East senatorial district not only made declaration of support for Governor Dapo Abiodun’s candidacy but also announced him as consensus candidate while however preventing the present occupant of the parliament seat, Senator Gbenga Daniel from gaining access to the venue of the meeting.
Senator Gbenga Daniel, who became a member of the senate in 2023, has shown interest in retaining his parliament seat in 2027 while Governor Dapo Abiodun, who will be completing his constitutionally allowed two terms as governor of Ogun State next year, is planning to ‘port’ to the legislative arm of government.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, lawmakers, local government officials, ward executives, councillors, youth and women leaders attended the meeting.
Otunba Gbenga Daniel, who served as governor of the state between 2003 and 2011, expressed shock that he was denied access to the hall while noting that he will not accept the outcome of the meeting.
‘We are here for our Ogun East APC caucus meeting, but surprisingly, we have been barred. Let it be on record that whatever they do here today is null and void’ he said.
Otunba Gbenga Daniel and President Bola Tinubu are longtime friends.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, former senator Lekan Mustapha said the decision reflected shared confidence in Governor Dapo Abiodun’s leadership.
‘We will formally communicate this decision to the governor and constitute a team to deliver the message. He has been adopted as our consensus candidate’ he said.
Recall that stakeholders in Ogun State APC had also last week endorsed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Yayi’s candidacy ahead of the party’s gubernatorial primary-–Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
