One Year After Leaving PDP, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Returns To Accept Osun Central Senate Nomination

One Year After Leaving PDP, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Returns To Accept Osun Central Senate Nomination

Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment, Senator Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi, who left PDP for APC in July last year, has announced his decision to return to his former party.

The senator, who represents Osun Central, had in July last year left PDP citing ‘irreparable division’ and ‘protracted legal battles’ that the party has faced after the 2023 general election.

He had also added that the situation had led to emergence of factions and resulted in leadership paralysis at the national level which had made his continued membership of the party unreasonable.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the senator, an indigene of Ila-Orangun, has not only returned to PDP but also accepted the party’s Osun Central senate nomination.

‘I am back in the PDP led by the FCT Minister, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike. I have already written to the Senate.

I can also confirm to you that ahead of the 2027 general election, I am the Osun Central PDP senate candidate’ he told journalists on Thursday.

It was learned that the senator has also sent a letter to Senate President, Barrister Godswill Akpabio in this regard while lamenting that he was made to face a deeply distressing and upsetting situation during the recent Osun Central APC’s senate primary election.

‘I write to formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately. This decision has not been taken lightly. I joined the APC as a progressive party in good faith to support Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in his ancestral home, which falls within my senatorial district, Osun Central.

Having got assurances and an agreement reached by Mr President to give me the sole ticket to run for the senatorial seat under the APC in Osun Central, which was passed down to our leader of the party by Mr President, I believed that those understandings would be honoured and that the party would uphold the principles of fairness, equity, mutual respect and internal democracy.

Regrettably, recent developments from the leadership of the APC in Osun State have created serious trust issues within the party and made my continued membership of the party untenable. It was expressly agreed that the process for selecting candidates would be conducted on the basis of consensus. However, no consensus process was genuinely conducted, nor were party primaries held in a transparent and acceptable manner.

This departure from our collective understanding has eroded confidence and undermined trust within the party. Furthermore, the manner in which decisions were taken appeared to disregard the authority and leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose commitment to due process, party cohesion and democratic values is well known’ he said.

Senator Fadeyi also criticized the decision of the state APC to allow four other federal lawmakers earn party nominations while he was made the only one that did not enjoy such a privilege.

Recall that Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), Rep Sanya Omirin (Ijesha South federal constituency), Rep Wole Oke (Ijesha North federal constituency) and Rep Taofeeq Ajilesoro (Ife federal constituency) last year announced their decision to switch ‘political party affiliation’ and they left PDP for APC-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
