PeacePro Announces Decision To Honour Omoyele Sowore With ‘Guardian Of Civil Liberties’ Award
The Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro) has announced the decision to honour Mr Omoyele Sowore with the ‘Guardian of Civil Liberties’ award. PeacePro noted that this was done in recognition of Mr Sowore’s role as a human rights defender.
Mr Sowore is a human rights activist, publisher of Sahara reporters and a former presidential candidate.
PeacePro described this decision as historic, marking the formal launch of its recognition framework for individuals demonstrating exceptional commitment to justice, nonviolence, and the protection of fundamental rights.
In a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by its Executive Director, Mr Abdulrazaq Hamzat, PeacePro said the ‘Guardian of Civic Liberties’ award is in recognition of Mr Sowore’s consistent frontline interventions in defense of citizens, particularly in cases involving detention, due process, and abuse of power.
‘This is not a routine honor. It is PeacePro’s first, and it sets a clear standard.
‘Guardian of Civil Liberties’ recognizes sustained courage in defending rights and holding power accountable’ Mr Hamzat said.
He added that the recognition signals a broader institutional goal that is defining a culture where civic courage is acknowledged cognizant that the defense of human dignity is central to peacebuilding.
PeacePro also clarified that the ‘Guardian of Civil Liberties’ award is not a legal pronouncement, but a moral and institutional recognition of consistent advocacy aligned with democratic values while urging governments and institutions to uphold constitutional freedoms, due process, and accountability.
The statement added that peace cannot exist where justice is uncertain-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
