Suspected Yahooboy Dies During Gun Battle 17 Days After Escaping From EFCC Custody In Benue

A suspected yahooboy, Asar Sesugh has died in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, 17 days after escaping from Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) custody.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Sesugh was among the 26 suspected yahooboys arrested by EFCC agents in Makurdi on April 28, 2026.

Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Mr Dele Oyewale in a statement he issued on Saturday said the suspects were profiled and remanded in custody after a court order was obtained in that regard.

Sesugh and two other suspects however escaped from custody on May 4 after taking permission to use the lavatory.

 ‘Shortly after their arrest, specifically on May 4, 2026, three of the suspects sought permission to use the lavatory at the Directorate’s Holding Facility and they were permitted. They cashed in on the opportunity, broke the toilet’s roof and escaped from custody. Several efforts were made to rearrest them to no avail’ he submitted while adding that Sesugh was traced to his hideout in Kansho axis of Makurdi on May 21, 2026, but he and his friends, who are allegedly cultists, opened fire on the EFCC agents.

‘EFCC agents returned fire in self-defence. All the suspected cult members, including Sesugh, fled owing to the exchange of fire between them and the anti-graft agents.

However, Sesugh was later seen lying in the pool of his blood by the roadside. He was promptly taken to the Police Cottage Hospital at the Police Headquarters in Makurdi, where he was declared a brought-in-dead patient.

 The Commission wishes to state clearly that the dead suspect did not die in custody and was not on bail at any point in time.

While the EFCC expresses its condolences to the family of the deceased suspect, it will not condone any further attack on its officials or breach of its internal security by suspects.
