Why 5 Young Men Who Wore ‘Tinubu Must Go’ T-shirts Are Facing Trial-Borno Police
Five young men who wore t-shirts emblazoned with ‘Tinubu must go’ and were arrested in Maiduguri are not being prosecuted because of what they wore but are facing charges bordering on breach of public peace, thuggery and drug possession, Borno State Police Command has clarified and submitted.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that spokesman for the state police command, ASP Nahum Daso, who made the clarification in a statement he issued in Maiduguiri on Wednesday, said the attention of the state police command has been drawn to media reports and widespread public discourse surrounding the case.
The police were according to him patrolling the West End Roundabout area of Maiduguri on 25 September 2026, at about 6pm, during which the five suspects were arrested.
‘The suspects were found in possession of: 1. 15 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp; 2. 100 tablets suspected to be D5; 3. One shisha pot; 4. One Scissors; 5. Two T-shirts bearing the inscription ‘Tinubu Must Go’ he submitted while adding that charges have been preferred against them.
‘The state police Command wishes to categorically state that the Nigeria Police Force is a professional, non-partisan institution and does not discriminate against persons on the basis of political affiliation or viewpoint.
The state police Command remains committed to the protection of fundamental human rights, the rule of law, due process, accountability and transparency in the discharge of its responsibilities’ he added.
The statement also noted that the decision to arraign the suspects is to allow the appropriate judicial process to take its course urging members of the public to rely on verified information and allow the court to determine the matter based on the facts and evidence presented before it.
