10th Senate : We’ll Resist Attempt To Force Anyone On Us As Minority Leader- Minority Caucus

The Minority caucus of the 10th Senate on Saturday expressed determination and readiness to resist ‘an attempt to force some people on them as minority leaders’.

Senators who are not members of the ruling APC are expected to present four people among them for the Minority Leader, Deputy Minority Leader, Minority Whip and the Deputy Minority Whip positions.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the  Minority Caucus had done this in reaction to the visit of former governor Nyesom Wike to the National Assembly complex last week Thursday.

The former Rivers state governor   had held a meeting with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, also at the meeting were the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau,  Senator Salihu Mustapha, Senator Jibril Isah  and President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters, Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel.

Those who signed the statement stating the readiness of the non-APC senators to resist imposition of those considered as unpopular among then include Senator Adamu Aliero;  Senator Aminu Tambuwal; Senator Seriake Dickson,  Senator Abdul Ningi,  Senator Abba Moro, Senator  Francis Onyewuchi, Senator Sumaila Kawu, and Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

‘ It has come to the notice of the Minority Political Parties in the Senate of an attempt by forces inside and outside the Senate to divide the Minority Parties and foist a pliant and compromised leadership on them.

We have pledged to work constructively with the new Senate leadership and the Executive branch to deliver good governance to the Nigerian people.

We consequently  advise and caution that they should not aid any group inside or outside the Senate to divide and destabilize the minority parties and the Senate institution’ the minority caucus said.

The   Senators added that those who belong to the minority parties would meet when the Senate reconvenes and ‘in consultation with our respective political parties, would select our leaders without undue interference from anti-democratic forces within or outside the Senate’.

‘For the avoidance of doubt, no Senator has yet been endorsed or selected for any Minority position as this would await due process as agreed by all Minority Parties during their last meeting.

Attempts to foist a one-party dictatorship would be resisted and would fail. We call on all members of the Minority Political Parties to work together in unity to defend the democratic institution of the Senate and Nigeria’ the statement added-Team@orientactualmags.com
