2027: Bawa, Baraje, Mustapha, OBG Urge Unity, Renewed Commitment As Kwara PDP Presents Sulaiman Kawu As Consensus Guber Candidate

Kwara State PDP bigwigs were on Saturday unanimous in their point of view as they urged members of the party in the state to remain united, committed and ensure unity of effort ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Team@orientactualmags.com reports that the PDP bigwigs including former National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, the state chairman, Hon Isa Adamu Bawa and former rep Moshood Mustapha said this during the presentation of the party’s consensus guber candidate, Engineer Sulaiman Kale Kawu to the public at the state PDP secretariat ,Ilorin on Saturday.

Alhaji Kawu Baraje disclosed that the consensus-driven nomination process was proposed and adopted by all the guber aspirants who had also promised to support anyone who eventually gets the party’s guber nomination among them.

He added that they signed a document to that effect on three occasions.

The former PDP National Chairman noted that although it was a strenuous task God has however made all efforts yield the desired results.

‘We thank God who has seen us to this level. Our party is so organized that it has become a source of fear to the ruling party.

We have head a series of meetings in the past one week , Iam here in company of Hon Moshood Mustapha to represent our leader, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki. One of the aspirants, Professor Ahmad Ali took an excuse because he’s bereaved and that is why he is not here. I have gotten involved in things of this nature before but the experience I have had this time around is different, just like he had said two years ago, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki involved all segments of society  . The good thing is that the series of meetings have yielded positive results and it has been quite fruitful.

Dr Bukola Saraki  asked the aspirants to hold meetings for one week and they all agreed that whoever emerges as guber candidate among them will be supported by others.

They signed documents to that effect on three different occasions as a way of showing commitment  and this morning the choice of Engineer Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu has been announced’ he said.

Alhaji Baraje, who said the ruling APC is in a considerable state of confusion in respect of choosing its guber candidate, also noted that the political calculations favour Engineer Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu’s candidacy.

He commended Engineer Kawu’s co-aspirants for displaying maturity and showing spirit of sportsmanship while noting that they all have good family pedigrees.

One of the guber aspirants, Mr Omar Bolaji Gambari, who is popularly called OBG, submitted that Alhaji Kawu Baraje gave the correct account of what has happened while noting that he took the decision to keep his word because he is a man of honour.

He also talked about leadership-followers’ lesson.

‘Today is a special day in the history of  our party and what is clear is that Government House, Ilorin is our goal.  I come from a military background and we are taught to obey the last command . Our leader , Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki asked us if we prefer direct primary or a consensus-driven nomination process  because all of us are qualified to do the job efficiently.

Leadership means we should follow our leader , we should not be like a person who will say someone is his or her leader only when the situation favours him or her.

Only God gives power and positions to people’ he said.

Gambari also noted that he shares ancestry with the consensus guber candidate, Engineer Kawu.

‘We are both princes, we are from the same family and we are members of the same party’ he said..

The top legal practitioner however urged supporters of Engineer Kawu’s former co-aspirants to metamorphose into Kawu’s team immediately.

‘As a human being, it is not easy to spend money, energy and time and not get what you wanted but only one person can emerge as candidate.  It is  however a case of no victor, no vanquished and from today, Team OBG, Team Ali and others have become Team Kawu.

I urge our supporters to promote unity because we are one and undivided family’ he said.

Giving his speech, Alhaji Isa Adamu Bawa, who called Engineer Sulaiman Kawu a man of destiny, also noted that the party’s mission is to reclaim its lost glory .

He submitted that five guber aspirants, who obtained nomination forms and were also in Abuja for the screening exercise had not only supported the consensus-driven nomination process but also sent separate letters to his office in this regard.

He commended the aspirants for helping to promote unity while noting that despite the presentation of the consensus  guber candidate to the public, direct primary will still hold today, Sunday, May 24, 2026, in line with the electoral act and constitution of party.

Also speaking, Hon Moshood Mustapha commended Hon Omar Bolaji Gambari  for his disposition and for demonstrating spirit of sportsmanship while noting that he has better days ahead.  He also noted that what took place on Saturday was a product of a painstaking effort and a series of meetings.

He emphasized the need for unity of effort as the party gets ready for the 2027 general election saying ‘we must work together to earn electoral victory’.

‘We are one big family, There are many guber candidates but we don’t want to talk about being a guber candidate.  To make Bolakale Kawu win and become the governor, we must ensure unity of effort’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
