2027: It’s ‘Come-From-Behind’ Victory As Speaker Danladi Wins Kwara APC Guber Nomination…Baruten LG About To Produce 2 Guber Candidates

Ahead of the governorship election scheduled to hold in the State of Harmony next year, Hon Yakubu Salihu Danladi has won the APC gubernatorial nomination.

From Central to North and South, party leaders, stakeholders, and members turned up heavily to support Speaker Danladi’s political aspirations and he has eventually gotten more than 65% of the total ballots cast.

Chairman of the Kwara State APC Governorship Primary Committee, Musliu Obanikoro, a former senator, who announced the election results, noted that Speaker Danladi got 94,990 votes, Alhaji  Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki had 41,700 votes while Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa got 22,118 votes.

Engr. Femi Sani had 5,519 votes; former Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe got 3,920 votes; Mr Dele Belgore SAN had 3,411 votes; Hon Mohamed Bio got 1122 votes; Dr. Alabi Oluwatoyin, 1099 votes; Prof. Wale Suleiman, 2434 votes while  Prof. Abubakar Suleiman got 1722 votes.

Key contenders including Alhaji Yahaya Seriki had earlier mobilized support for SYD in a show of solidarity for the man who Abdulrazaq has newly endorsed for governor.

From Alanamu to Ajikobi, Ojuekun and Adewole in Ilorin West to Ibagun and Gambari in Ilorin East, field reports showed that SYD was in comfortable lead as party members voted massively for him while also displaying his campaign posters.

All the five local government areas in the North returned more than 90% of their votes in favour of Speaker Danladi; while he also led comfortably across the two other senatorial districts.

In the Southern District, Offa, Oyun, Irepodun, Ekiti, Isin, Oke Ero, and Ifelodun stood firmly behind the choice of the Speaker, underscoring his strong support base across the state.

It was a come-from-behind victory for Speaker Danladi , who had earlier in the week been made to resign to his fate and to not only withdraw from the governorship race but also made to consider the idea of seeking to retain his parliament seat next year.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq had on Tuesday endorsed Alhaji Abdulfatahi Yahaya Seriki’s candidacy and with the declaration of support for the top businessman, the governor had made it clear that he will be backing him in the APC gubernatorial primary.

Speaker Yakubu Salihu Danladi had apparently acted out of obligation and not only congratulated Alhaji Yahaya Seriki  but also urged support for him,

‘The endorsement of my good brother and ally, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki MFR as a preferred candidate to fly the guber ticket of our party by His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON is a welcome development and as a committed and loyal party member with absolute belief in the leadership of the Governor as our undisputed leader, I align myself with the endorsement in deference to the party’s supremacy’ he had submitted.

With the development recorded on Friday, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, a taciturn and stoic person, has once again, shown that he is a politician whose efforts are strictly focused on hitting specific targets.

Despite the talks that centered on horse trading and apparent gang up on him by political enemies, he had remained calm and resilient under pressure and he has eventually had his way.

In the meanwhile, Kwara State APC guber candidate, Speaker Yakubu Salihu Danladi has in his first interview with journalists after winning the party’s guber nomination submitted that it is ‘no victor, no vanquished’ adding that his victory is a success of all other aspirants and members of the party in the state.

‘We need to thank God Almighty for where we are. In the APC, we are all one. There is no winner, there is no loser. We are all winners. I need to thank Kwarans for standing by Kwara North’ he said.

Speaker Yakubu also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting his emergence as the candidate of the party.

‘I will thank Mr. President. He is truly the Jagaban of Borgu. One, this is the first time since 1999 that the Borgu kingdom will earn the governorship nomination of a ruling party. And sincerely, we thank His Excellency, the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, the father of the nation, for looking at where he got the Jagaban of Borgu, and took it to there.

We also need to thank Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. He’s a man of his word. He’s a leader. He’s a transformer. And he has done very well across different sectors’ the Speaker added.

Speaker Yakubu also promised to build on the legacies of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to move the state to greater heights.

‘We are part and parcel of this administration. As someone who has served as Speaker for almost seven years, I’m practically a part of all the policies of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. All I need to say is legacy continues and our state will be better for it’ he said.

What will be the unique feature of the 2027 Kwara State guber election is that Baruten local government will be having two of its indigenes as candidates of the ruling party, APC and one of the major opposition parties, ADC.

Hon Zakari Mohammed

Former rep Zakari Mohammed, who is from Gurei, Baruten local government, is the consensus guber candidate of ADC.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, he will be elected by acclamation in Ilorin, the state capital, tomorrow-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
