2027 Kwara Guber: Why Ilorin South LG Should Be Allowed To Produce PDP Candidate, Omar Bolaji ‘Uniquely Qualified’-KEAGG
Ahead of the 2027 Kwara State gubernatorial election, leaders and members of the state PDP have been urged to ensure fairness, justice and inclusivity in the state chapter by allowing Ilorin South local government to produce the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
Kwara Elite Advocate for Good Governance (KEAGG) at the press conference held at NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin on Saturday which was attended by journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com said a review of PDP’s political history in Kwara State since 1999 shows a pattern in the distribution of its governorship nomination across different parts of the state.
The press conference was presided over by Secretary of KEAGG, Mr Ahmed Bolaji Babatunde, who was flanked by other leaders of the non-governmental organization, Mr Muhammad Sakariyya and Mr AbdulKareem Ahmed.
The group noted that having former governor Mohammed Lawal from Ilorin East LG, Dr Bukola Saraki from Ilorin West LG and Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed from Ifelodun LG had reflected efforts at balancing political representation within the party.
It also noted that in 2019, the PDP zoned its governorship nomination to Asa Local Government as part of efforts to promote inclusiveness and broaden participation within its ranks while the party’s most recent candidate, Alhaji Shuaib Yahman from Edu local government had further demonstrated its commitment to presenting credible candidates across the state.
The group lamented that Ilorin South Local Government has not yet produced a PDP governorship candidate, despite its electoral strength and loyalty to the party.
‘It is therefore both just and necessary that the PDP zones its 2027 governorship nomination to Ilorin South Local Government Area’ he said.
The group argued that such a move would correct perceived imbalance, strengthen internal cohesion, and boost confidence among party supporters.
KEAGG also urged the leader of PDP in Kwara State, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki to provide guidance on the matter, noting that his leadership will be crucial in ensuring fairness and unity within the party while adding that allowing Ilorin South local government to produce the party’s guber candidate will reinforce PDP’s principles of inclusiveness and position the party strongly ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mr Ahmed Bolaji Babatunde also said a Kwara State gubernatorial aspirant, Mr Omar Bolaji Gambari is a uniquely qualified candidate having shown loyalty to the party in the past after losing House of Representatives nomination while adding that he has the capacity, the determination, the interest and commitment to solving the myriads of challenges facing the state-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
