Kano Deputy Governor Resigns To Avert Impeachment
The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam has resigned from his position after the state House of Assembly had initiated impeachment proceedings against him and the Federal High Court, Kano had on Wednesday declined the request to halt it.
Apparently sensing that Governor Abba Yusuf may ask the state lawmakers to quicken the impeachment process, he considered calling it quit as the best course of action.
.Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Alhaji Aminu Abdulsalam’s resignation was announced in a statement issued by the spokesman for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed on Friday.
‘The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to formally inform the general public, the good people of Kano State, and the entire nation that the Deputy Governor of Kano State has tendered his resignation from office.
Recent circumstances have, to a considerable extent, constrained the full realization of the benefits and responsibilities attached to the office of the Deputy Governor. In view of this, it has become imperative to allow the office to function optimally in the best interest of the public that it is meant to serve’ the statement submitted while noting that Alhaji Aminu’s decision to resign does not in any way imply that the allegations raised against him by the parliament are true.
‘For the avoidance of doubt, this resignation does not in any way constitute an admission of the allegations raised against him by the Kano State House of Assembly. The Deputy Governor maintains his innocence and firmly believes that his records in office and public service remain a testament to his integrity and commitment to the people.
The Deputy Governor has also resolved to dedicate more time and energy to the Kwankwasiyya Movement, particularly in strengthening its structures, rebuilding strategies, and engaging in critical political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections’ he said.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has urged its supporters and other residents of Kano State to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to the ideals of good governance and democracy, assuring that further details would be communicated in due course.
Recall that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had in January this year left NNPP for APC while the Deputy Governor had not only refused to follow suit but also declared his continued loyalty to Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Hon Ibrahim Waiya had a few days later said it is important for the Deputy Governor to consider voluntary resignation having refused to join Governor Abba Yusuf in leaving NNPP for APC.
‘This is his personal decision, but there is no way someone who is no longer with you should be part of the routine council meeting.
Who knows with whom he might share important government secrets? In government, things are done based on trust, and you can’t trust someone who is not with you’ the commissioner had submitted.
Recall also that the state House of Assembly had a few days ago, begun impeachment proceedings against Alhaji Aminu Abdulsalam and allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust were leveled against him.
That was not all, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had diplomatically stripped Alhaji Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo of ‘commissionership duties’ last week.
He had done this through the restructuring of ministries which had the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Education becoming one entity.
Alhaji Gwarzo had before the ‘merger’ given the duty of overseeing the Ministry of Higher Education and he was not asked to oversee any other ministry after the disestablishment of the ministry in question-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
