Adamawa Political Debacle: Hudu Ari Has Gone Incommunicado, His Whereabouts Unknown-INEC

Hudu Ari, a barrister- at- law, who had gotten a great deal of public attention since last weekend, has had his whereabouts suddenly becoming unknown.

 Until he got in the soup, Ari was the  Resident Electoral Commissioner of  the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Adamawa state.

 National Commissioner, INEC, Mr.  Festus Okoye disclosed on Friday that no one knows Ari’s whereabouts.

Hudu Yunusa Ari had declared the APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Aisha Dahiru, aka Binani winner of the 2023 Adamawa state Governorship election under controversial circumstances last week Sunday.

Hudu Ari had announced Aishatu Ahmed Binani as winner of the election at about 9.30 am  less than two hours before the scheduled resumption of collation.

His action was however declared null and void  while INEC had later concluded the collation of results, declared Governor Fintiri winner of the Adamawa state 2023 Governorship Election and presented him the certificate of return (CoR).

Team@orientactualmags.com learned Okoye  raised the alarm that Ari  may have chosen to go incommunicado while appearing on  Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday.

‘We don’t know where he is because, after this particular incident, the Commission wrote him and also called him on the phone. He never returned any of the calls; he never answered any of the calls.

We asked him to report to the Commission on Sunday we didn’t see him, we asked him to report on Monday we didn’t see him. So up till this moment, he has not reported and we don’t know his whereabouts’ he said.

Would the suspended REC be declared wanted by the police? 

‘Well, that is the responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force  If they feel that his presence is absolutely needed during the investigation and he is nowhere to be found, it is their prerogative and discretion to declare him wanted’ he said.

It will be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had asked Ari to stay away from office indefinitely following his role in the illegal declaration of Binani as Governor-elect.

This was contained in a circular to him by Mrs. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, who is the Commission’s Secretary .

It was titled ‘ Commission’s Directive to stay away from INEC, Adamawa State’.

‘ I hereby convey the commission’s decision that you (Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adamawa State should stay away from the commission’s office in Adamawa State immediately until further notice.

The Administrative Secretary has been directed to take full charge of INEC, Adamawa State with immediate effect’ the circular had noted- Team@orientactualmags.com
