2023 Reps Election: Tribunal Nullifies Rep Muktar Yerima’s Candidacy, Victory
The National and State House of Assembly elections petition tribunal has nullified the candidacy and election victory of a member of the House of Representatives, Hon Muktar Umar Yerima.
The federal lawmaker, who represents Tarauni federal constituency, Kano state, is a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the three-member panel headed by Justice I.P. Chima ruled that Yerima was not qualified to get nominated by his party for the 2023 House of Representatives election having forged his primary school certificate.
The tribunal added that the petition made available by Hafizu Ibrahim Kawu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was meritorious having proven a case of forgery against the NNPP candidate.
The tribunal submitted that the NNPP had no candidate in the election in question and that all the votes that Yerima got were ‘wasted votes’.
The tribunal directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return earlier issued to Yerima.
The tribunal had noted that Yerima’s defence that he had made a change of name in 2022 was not a plausible argument having been using three (Umar Mukhtar Zakari) names on his International passports since 2009 while his primary school certificate still bears Umar Mukhtar.
The tribunal also submitted that the said primary school, Hausawa Primary School, has disowned the certificate that Yerima had presented -Team@orientactualmags.com
