Osun Judiciary Imbroglio: Workers Register Protest As Justice Adepele Ojo Returns To Office In Osogbo

The ‘dramatic scenes’  that began to get enacted in Osun state  last week Thursday with respect to who should head the judicial branch of government in the state,  continued on Wednesday.

The State of the Living Spring  has continued to be in the news, and it has actually gotten a great deal of public attention.

It had begun with Governor Ademola Adeleke disclosing that he has approved the resolution of the state House of Assembly asking the Chief Judge ,  Justice Adepele Ojo, to ‘step aside’ whilst carrying out investigation of allegations leveled against her in separate petitions submitted to the parliament which include misconduct, abuse of power, corruption and disregard for rule of law .

The governor had consequently announced the appointment of Justice Olayinka David Afolabi as acting Chief Judge while adding that arrangements were being made to ensure that oath-taking ceremony is held for him the following day..

The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice , Barrister Wole Jimi-Bada  had also later submitted that the steps taken by Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier in the day in question with regard to who should head the state judiciary was not in any way improper or inappropriate.

He also noted that the governor  did not act unjustifiably  adding that he had only done the needful sequel to the resolution of the state House of Assembly while submitting that Justice Adepele Ojo may be reinstated as Chief Judge if her innocence is eventually established.  .

The governor however made a volte-face two days later with the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment,  Barrister Kolapo Alimi issuing a statement to clarify and assert that at no time was anyone appointed as acting Chief Judge.

The ‘dramatic scenes’ continued on Monday with members of the Osun state chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN,  laying siege to the High Court Complex , Osogbo especially office of the State Chief Judge.

The union noted that the step taken was in solidarity with some of their members who had  allegedly  suffered various forms of persecution under Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo.

The judicial workers were on Wednesday made to stop the steps taken to prevent the embattled Chief Judge, Adepele Ojo, from returning to office. They had protested against her presence at the High Curt Complex, Osogbo.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned   that Ojo  had arrived in her office and ‘settled down’ before the workers gathered and made an attempt  to  move near the parking lot where her vehicle was but the police fired tear gas at them.

Chairman, Osun  state JUSUN, Gbenga Eludire, later directed judicial workers in the state to stay away from work until further notice.

‘Following the action of the police and attitude of the Chief Judge, I, Comrade Gbenga Eludire, hereby order that workers in the sector should withdraw their service till further notice’ he told reporters on Wednesday-Team@orientactualmags.com
