Kwara PDP Says NPFL Declaring Ilorin Stadium As Unfit To Host Matches ‘Embarrassing’, Blames AbdulRazaq Administration
Kwara state PDP has expressed deep concern over the deplorable state of the state Stadium Complex, Ilorin which has according to the party brought repeated national embarrassments to the state and has also led to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) management getting it declared as unfit to host matches.
The party alleged that ‘these issues are testaments to the gross neglect and financial corruption under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration’.
Kwara state PDP also blamed the Abdulrazaq administration for allowing the state APC to hold political rallies at the Main Bowl of the stadium.
‘The unfortunate use of the Main Bowl of the stadium for the All Progressives Congress (APC) rallies signifies Abdulrahman’s misplaced priorities and determination to ruin Kwara’s legacies’ the party submitted in a statement issued in Ilorin and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olusegun Olusola Adewara.
‘It is unfortunate that despite massive evidence of corruption and fund embezzlement presented by the Kwara Football Association against the Kwara state government, upon which the organization withdrew its services from the Kwara stadium in protest, Governor Abdulrazaq has not deemed it worthy to investigate this development despite the overwhelming evidence presented by the KFA.
Recently, the Kwara Football Association (KFA) accused the Abdulrahman government of misusing stadium funds. In protest of this massive corruption, the KFA withdrew its services from the stadium.
Kwarans will recall a report by Sahara Reporters in 2022, which accused the Abdulrahman government of spending N72 million on a section of the stadium with no sign of changes. Up till now, the government is yet to explain to the people of Kwara how this huge fund went down the drain.
Since the Otoge government, led by Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, came into power in 2019, Kwara has been taken 25 years backward behind its peers. The situation of the Kwara state Stadium is a reflection of Governor Abdulrazaq’s determination to dismantle Kwara’s legacies, particularly those linked to the Saraki regime, which are the true faces of modern-day Kwara.
If anyone, before now, had dreamt that the Kwara Stadium, which the Saraki administration upgraded from a 7,000-seater capacity to 26,000, could become a shadow of itself and no longer suitable to host even local sporting activities within six years, we would tell them to go back to sleep.
We challenge Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to account for all the millions spent on the stadium and ask him to apologize to Kwarans for hosting APC political rallies on the pitch, which had caused the current troubles we are witnessing today.
The state must conduct a thorough investigation into the corruption allegations made by the KFA and ensure that those responsible for the stadium’s ruins are held accountable’ the statement added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
