‘Unity’ Key To Enhancing PDP’s Electoral Fortunes In Southwest – Gov Adeleke

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has urged unity and harmony in the Southwest PDP in order to expand and enhance the party’s electoral fortunes in the zone.

The Southwest geo-political zone comprises six states; Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Oyo  and only two among them; Osun and Osun are PDP-controlled states.

A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com  by the governor’s Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed  noted that  Asiwaju Adeleke said this during the inauguration ceremony of the new Southwest Secretariat of the party in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Saturday.

The newly inaugurated secretariat was named after the former National Vice Chairman of the party in the Southwest, late Hon Soji Adagunodo and Governor Adeleke has urged party members to close ranks in memory of the  ex-PDP zonal leader.

‘The significance of today’s event is the clarion call for unity and deeper brotherhood among PDP at home and abroad. We must forget the path of division and unite for the good of our dear party.

It is better for us to fight each other  inside Government House than outside. We must refocus attention on building strong administrative operational structures. 

With that, we can deploy for elections, retain our existing states and even expand our reach across the six zones of the federation’  the governor told attendees of the  event including  top PDP leaders and members of the National Working Committee of the party.

Noting his mixed feelings at the event, the governor ,who is the leader of party in Osun State, said the gathering raised two feelings in him, both of which he described as significant.

‘The first one is that we are opening a major administrative hub for the party in the Southwest at a very critical point in our national life. 

The second one is the naming of the Secretariat after my late brother, Soji Adagunodo, a top political leader and ally from my state before his transition.

I am therefore in a sober mood because our brother is not here with us to witness the honour being done to his memory. I pray that God Almighty grants him eternal rest’ he said.

Giving his speech, Governor Seyi Makinde spoke in the same vein and reechoed Governor Adeleke’s call for unity in the PDP,noting that  the presence of warring parties of the past at the event ‘is a sign that the party is now one in the zone’.

He advised that leaders and members of the party should forget the bickering of the past and join hands to expand the party’s victory in future elections, hailing Governor Adeleke for his magnanimity and sense of responsibility.
