Taoreed Lagbaja: President Tinubu Postpones FEC Meeting, Orders Flags At Half-staff…IDU Confirms Decision To Call Off ‘2024 Ilobu Day’
The Federal Executive Council meeting that was scheduled to hold on Wednesday was postponed in honour of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who was until his death on Tuesday night , the Chief of Army Staff.
‘Initially scheduled to hold today, the council meeting was postponed in honour of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on Tuesday night’ President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, submitted in a statement he issued in Abuja on Wednesday.
After announcing the postponement of the FEC meeting at the Council Chamber, Vice President Kashim Shettima led other council members in observing a moment of silence in honour of the late Army Chief.
In the meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has also ordered that flags should be flown at half -staff at public places for seven days across the country as a way of mourning the passing of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the Director of Information & Public Relations, office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Segun Imohiosen ,disclosed this in a statement he issued on Wednesday.
He noted that the president has expressed regret over Lagbaja’s death.
‘President Bola Tinubu has expressed regret following the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, after a brief illness at the age of 56’ the statement said.
Ilobu, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government, Osun State, has also suspended its planned 2024 Ilobu Day celebration.
Recall that the National President of the Ilobu-Asake Development Union (IDU), Olufemi Salako, had a few days ago, announced that the 32nd Ilobu Day celebration will hold between November 4 and 10 .
The late COAS was expected to lead other dignitaries to the fundraising event for developmental projects in Ilobu community on Saturday and the target was to raise N200 million.
Mr Salako noted that the news of Lagbaja’s demise was devastating to the community lamenting that ‘he has died when his service and leadership are much needed for the development of our community, Osun State and Nigeria at large’.
‘We take solace in the legacy of service, gallantry, diligence and commitment to Nigeria, he left behind. In lieu of the sad development, the National Executive of IDU has announced the immediate suspension of all ongoing activities marking the 2024 Ilobu Day Celebration, announcement of a new date for the event shall be made later.
