Alasi Of Asi-Egbedun Rift: Stay In Your Lane, It’s A Family Affair, PDP Tells APC…Osun Speaker Not Suspended-Conference Of Speakers
Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, who is also the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, has described media reports claiming that the Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun has been suspended from the association as untrue.
Ogundoyin described the media reports in question as false, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
Recall that media reports had claimed that Rt. Hon. Egbedun was suspended from the Conference of Speakers sequel to alleged insubordination and abuse of office.
‘There was no such suspension. No press conference was held in Ibadan or anywhere else, and no such pronouncement was made by me or any authorized representative of the Conference of Speakers’ Ogundoyin said.
He noted that the Conference of Speakers is a credible and transparent body that follows due process in all its dealings, including disciplinary procedures.
‘Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun remains a respected and active member of the Conference of Speakers who has not been found wanting in any way’ he affirmed.
Describing the media reports as ‘a baseless fabrication lacking any journalistic credibility’, Ogundoyin urged media practitioners to attach importance to responsible journalism and verify claims before publishing stories that are capable of harming reputations and causing public confusion.
The Conference of Speakers also demanded a retraction and public apology while threatening to take a legal action should the media organizations involved fail to correct the ‘misleading narrative’.
‘This is a reminder that freedom of the press comes with responsibility. Fake news must be tackled with urgency’ the statement quoted Ogundoyin as saying.
In separate statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Thursday, Osun State PDP warned the state APC not to nosy into the rift between Speaker Adewale Egbedun and the Alasi of Asi, Oba Olasunkanmi Isaac submitting that it is ‘a family affair’.
‘The attention of the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to the recent press statement issued by the troubled opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State wherein the party took undue liberty occasioned by their pensionable idleness into a private disagreement between the Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Honorable Adewale Egbedun, and the traditional ruler of his hometown, the Alasi of Asi, Oba Olasunkanmi Oyewale Isaac.
We find the statement issued by APC not only hypocritical but also a calculated attempt to weaponize a sensitive matter in order to gain cheap political points. We strongly condemn such a meddling and urge the APC to refrain from fanning the embers of discord in a matter that is already receiving the attention of relevant authorities.
Contrary to the sensational narrative being peddled by the opposition, the PDP is fully aware that the matter arose from a string of threats to the life of the Speaker, which preceded the unfortunate outburst captured in the viral call recording. These threats, which have since been formally reported, are under active investigation by the Nigeria Police Force.
It is therefore reckless and dangerous for the APC to jump to conclusions and attempt to incite the public against the Speaker, all in a bid to stay politically relevant. We caution that such actions border on incitement and must not be taken lightly.
We also urge the police to widen the scope of their investigations to include members of the opposition, particularly in view of the APC’s growing desperation to destabilize Osun State, having suffered an overwhelming rejection by the good people of the state.
To our revered Royal Father, His Royal Majesty, Oba Olasunkanmi Oyewale Isaac, we appeal for continued restraint and wisdom. Kabiyesi, we acknowledge the deep and cordial relationship that has existed between you and your son, the Speaker. We trust in your magnanimity to rise above external provocations and allow for a thorough investigation that will unearth those behind the alleged threats to the life of Mr Speaker.
We remain confident in the capacity of the Speaker, Right Honourable Adewale Egbedun, to not only demonstrate leadership in reconciling with the royal father but to also continue to serve with integrity and focus as a representative of his people and the number one lawmaker in the state’ the statement submitted .
The party also urged all the stakeholders to maintain peace and decency whilst the security agencies carry out their lawful duties while asserting that the path to lasting resolution lies in maturity, investigation, and truth, not political theatrics-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
