Ajibola Basiru Taunts Aregbesola About Serving As ADC National Secretary With No Sitting Governor, Incumbent Senator

APC National Secretary, Barrister Ajibola Basiru has taunted Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola about serving as National Secretary of a political party with no sitting governor or incumbent senator.

With the contents of his speech during the inauguration of the secretariat of his political support group, the Alubarika Movement in Osogbo on Saturday, Barrister Ajibola Basiru will definitely continue to make the headlines for the next few days.

Barrister Ajibola Basiru not only made the news after announcing his decision to withdraw from the 2026 Osun State Gubernatorial race on Saturday, he also during the event teased his former boss, former political leader and a former political soulmate, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola about being a co-equal who however occupies a lesser value position.

Aregbesola is currently the interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The APC National Secretary served as Special Adviser on Legal Matters and later Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice during the Aregbesola administration and he was ready to take on anyone who dared to tackle the former governor whilst the relationship between him and Baba Kabiru was ‘excellent’.

After the Aregbesola administration came to an end in 2018, Barrister Ajibola Basiru got party nomination, won the 2019 National Assembly elections in Osun Central and became a senator.

Aregbesola was also appointed as Minister of Interior by late Muhammadu Buhari but the two of them parted ways when the relationship between the former minister and the then Governor Gboyega Oyetola got strained.

The former Interior Minister later opposed Oyetola’s re-election bid in 2022 while Ajibola not only supported him but also served as Director General of his campaign organization.

Ajibola also sought to retain his parliament seat in 2023, but lost to Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi-Ajagunla, who was the PDP candidate.

He however defected to APC a few weeks ago.

Ajibola became the National Secretary of APC shortly after losing his parliament seat in 2023.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Alubarika House in Osogbo on Saturday, Barrister Ajibola Basiru, an indigene of Osogbo, said his kinsmen and townmates may not  fully appreciate the privilege of having their son as National Secretary of a ruling party.

‘A prophet is honoured everywhere except in his own hometown and among his own family, you may therefore say is he not the son of a wrapped pap seller in Ile Odofin and Ile Alawe’ he said.

Ajibola however noted that they would appreciate better when they note the fact that someone who served as governor for eight years in the state is currently serving as National Secretary of a political party that has no sitting governor, no incumbent senator but only one member of the House of Representatives, who even left APC for ADC.

The former senator added that however, in his own case , he is the National Secretary of a political party with almost 30 sitting governors, 78 senators and 300 members of the House of Representatives -Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
