2025 Asia Parliamentary International Debate Competition: High Commission Hosts Luncheon In Honour Of ‘Team Kwara’ In Kaula Lumpur

The High Commission of Nigeria in Malaysia on Monday hosted a luncheon in honour of ‘Team Kwara’ in Kaula Lumpur, the country’s capital.

Recall that ‘Team Kwara’ represented Nigeria in the 2025 Asia Parliamentary International Debate Competition (Junior Secondary School Category) and emerged as winner.

It had 16 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe as participants and from holding the record of national champion in school debate at multiple times, ‘Team Kwara’ has, this time around, made Nigeria win an important international debate competition.

‘We were honoured to be invited by the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Malaysia today. We appreciate the staff of the commission for hosting a luncheon in honour of the Team Kwara, it was a wonderful recognition’ Executive Chairman of Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWASUBEB), who is also the Dean of Forum of SUBEB Chairmen In Nigeria, Professor Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, told Team@orientactualmags.com on Monday.

‘Our public school students who represented Nigeria at the 2025 Asia Parliamentary International Debate Competition (Junior Secondary School Category) in Malaysia won the prestigious championship that had 16 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe as participants.

I’m very excited at this huge feat that has again, placed Nigeria on the global map for academic excellence and scholarship. I commend our champions for their outstanding performance, brilliance and resilience. They have brought honour and pride to Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole, and we’re so grateful to them.

This win — and the previous ones — demonstrates clearly that our investment in basic education is making the right impact. We are encouraged to do more for our learners and the entire education sector in the state.

I thank the Kwara SUBEB team ably led by Prof. Sheu Raheem Adaramaja, the coaches, and all other stakeholders, who have been key pillars of support in driving our vision for a reformed basic education in the state’ Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had submitted in a social media post at the weekend.

Hajia Atere Aminat Abiola, who is the Press Secretary, KWSUBEB, had also in a statement she issued on Sunday noted that the ‘debate success’ has shown that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s huge investment in basic education in Kwara State has yielded positive results.

‘We are excited to announce that the Team Kwara SUBEB which represented Nigeria at the prestigious 2025 Asia parliamentary International Debate competition (Junior Secondary School category) held at HELP University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has emerged as the champion.

In the grand finale, Team Nigeria 🇳🇬 triumphed over Team Cambodia 🇰🇭 emerging as overall winner. Sixteen(16) countries across Asia, Africa and Europe participated in  the championship.

This exceptional achievement is a testament to the brilliance, dedication, and resilience of our students who were determined to appreciate Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s huge investment in basic education.

This feat is a very clear indication that His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, is ending this year 2025 in a high feat, especially with the outstanding performance of Kwara students at the just concluded championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This performance has again, brought pride to Kwara State and Nigeria on the international stage.

This international triumph follows their victorious performance at the 2024 Presidential School Debate Championship in Abuja.

The 2025 victory at the Asia Parliamentary International Debate  marks Kwara’s first-ever international debate championship title and its third times at the national-level, reinforcing the state’s leadership in intellectual and academic competitions.

The state expresses profound gratitude to Almighty God for journey mercies and for granting the team good health and strength throughout the competition. This victory also reflects the unwavering support of the Kwara State Government under His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s leadership, whose commitment to strengthening educational opportunities continues to uplift students across the state.

It would be recalled that, at the national level, Team Kwara won the President School Debate of Nigeria championships in 2021, 2023 and 2024. The team also participated at the World School Debate championship (Junior Secondary School category) held in Singapore in May, 2024 where they got to the quarter-final stage.

His Excellency has also approved the participation of Team Kwara in the 2025 edition of President School Debate of Nigeria slated for 14th-18th December, 2025 in Abuja. This year’s event is going to be hosted by the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, Nigeria’ the statement added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
