Kwara Sun Newspaper Correspondent Dies After Short Illness, Gov Abdulrazaq, Saraki Offer Condolences
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State led tributes to Mr Layi Olarewaju, a veteran journalist, who died in Ilorin on Friday.
Mr Layi Olarewaju was until his passing on Friday, the Kwara State correspondent of The Sun Newspaper.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye noted that he was shocked by the news of the death of Mr. Layi Olarewaju while commiserating with Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Correspondents’ Chapel whose chairman he was at some point, the Sun newspaper, and his immediate family.
The governor described Mr. Olarewaju as a veteran journalist and media unionist whose legacies spanned decades of excellent reporting and commitment to the welfare of fellow journalists.Â
He prayed that God will console his family and repose his soul.
Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has also expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mr. Emmanuel Olayiwola Olanrewaju.
In a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his Press Officer on Local Matters, Mr Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki described the death of the veteran journalist as shocking, painful, and a great loss to the media profession in Kwara State and beyond.
Dr Saraki, who is the Waziri Ngeri of Ilorin, noted that the late Olayiwola was a dedicated, diligent, and professional journalist who carried out his duties with commitment and integrity, contributing immensely to the growth of journalism in the state.
The former Senate President extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased journalist, the Kwara State Correspondents’ Chapel, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, and the entire media practitioners in the state over this irreparable loss.
He prayed that Almighty God will grant the deceased journalist eternal rest and give his immediate family and colleagues the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
The Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council in a statement issued by Mr Biola Azeez, Chairman and Miss Mosunmola Ayobami , Secretary, on Friday, called Mr Layi Olarewaju ‘a committed elder’.
‘It’s with a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God that we announce the death of a committed elder and former chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kwara State Council, Comrade Layi Olarewaju.
Comrade Olarewaju, the Kwara State correspondent of The Sun Newspaper, died this morning, Friday, at a private hospital after a short illness.
His commitment, unifying attribute and journalism wealth of experience will be sorely missed.
The Chapel prays that God Almighty will console the family, associates and friends and give them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss’ the statement added.
The Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has also expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mr. Layi Olanrewaju.
In a statement issued by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, Professor Egbewole described the death of the veteran journalist as shocking.
The Vice-Chancellor called Mr Layi Olanrewaju a diligent media professional and a close friend of the university, acknowledging his efforts to promote the institution through positive reporting of events and personalities.
Professor Egbewole highlighted the late journalist’s commitment to using his platform to advance the interests of the university and enhance its public image.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased journalist, urging them to find comfort in his exemplary life and professional legacy.
